Strathclyde Law School was established in 1964 and operates within the faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Strathclyde, in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Law School has recently moved to new accommodation in the Lord Hope Building (named after Lord Hope of Craighead, Chancellor of the University and Lord of Appeal in Ordinary). The new premises were officially opened by the Lord Advocate, Elish Angiolini QC in February 2007.

Postgraduate courses, including the Diploma in Legal Practice, are currently available from the Glasgow Graduate School of Law (GGSL), run in collaboration with the University of Glasgow. The GGSL is based on the University of Strathclyde John Anderson campus in the Lord Hope Building.

The University of Strathclyde Law Clinic was set up in October 2003 by Professor Donald Nicolson, and is the first and only University-run Law Clinic in Scotland. The Law Clinic offers free legal advice and help to residents of Glasgow and the surrounding area who cannot afford a solicitor or do not qualify for legal aid. Dealing mainly with employment law and small claims issues, the Clinic has branched out in recent years into planning, environmental, and landlord and tenant areas of law, helping a vast number of clients along the way.

The current Law Clinic offices are located on Level 3 of the Lord Hope Building, on the University of Strathclyde John Anderson campus.

In March 2009, the Law Clinic attended the LawWorks & Attorney General Student Awards in London where the University of Strathclyde Law School won Best Contribution by a Law School for the work and success of its Law Clinic.[3] The Law Clinic was also shortlisted in two other categories, the Law Clinic student committee for an award for Best Contribution by a Team of Students, and Alasdair Stewart - a Strathclyde Law Clinic member - for Best Contribution by an Individual Student.[4]

Mooting

The Law School has an active mooting society, which organises an internal competition and competes in various Scottish and UK external competitions, including the Alexander Stone National Legal Debate; the English Speaking Union Competition; and the UKELA Student Moot.

Strathclyde is the current champion of both the UKELA Student Moot and the Alexander Stone Moot, having won both competitions in 2009. Strathclyde is also the European Champion of the international Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot having won the competition in 2009.[5] Strathclyde will represent Europe at the word finals in South Korea in October 2009.[6]

Strathclyde also participates in the annual Sheriff Moot, organised by Glasgow Sheriff Court, against the Glasgow Law School. Glasgow currently holds the trophy and leads the series 10-8.

The Mooting Society's current President is Emma L Boffey and Vice-President is Josh Barton.
