Michael Campbell (bishop)
Michael Gregory Campbell, OSA (born 2 October 1941) is an English prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He currently serves as Bishop of Lancaster.
Biography
Michael Campbell was born in Larne, County Antrim, in Northern Ireland, and made his solemn profession as a member of the Order of St. Augustine, more commonly known as the Augustinians, on 17 September 1966.
He was ordained to the priesthood on 16 September 1971, in the chapel of Austin Friars School in Carlisle. Campbell later taught at the same school, and was Episcopal Vicar for religious in the Diocese of Lancaster from 1990 to 1999. He then served as a parish priest in the Archdiocese of Westminster and was appointed Episcopal Vicar for Religious for the diocese.
On 12 February 2008, Campbell was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Lancaster by Pope Benedict XVI. He served as the designated successor of the then Ordinary, Patrick O'Donoghue. He was both "humbled and deeply touched"[1] at his nomination.
Campbell received his episcopal consecration on the following 31 March, in St. Peter's Cathedral. He succeded O'Donoghue on 1 May 2009.
