Map request

South Cove

A number of present-day establishments along South Street near South Station bear the moniker "South Cove". However, this area is in the Leather District, not Bay Village. Has the name travelled, or is the assertion that Bay Village used to be called South Cove mistaken? It would be nice to have references that are more solid than just the Neighborhood Association website, such as old newspaper clippings. -- Beland 01:40, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I no longer live in the Boston area. However, I'm pretty certain that there's a historic marker describing Bay Village and its history as "South Cove" on the southern corner of either Melrose or Fayette and Church. The marker (blue in color) goes on to describe the "sunken gardens" of Bay Village due to the change in the water table when Back Bay was infilled. raising street level

Is it really 12-18 feet or 12-18 inches in the sentence below from the article?

"During the mid to late 1800s, some streets in Bay Village were raised 12-18 feet as the South End and Back Bay were created by continued landfill"
