Into the Adirondacks

The book was derived from a collection of notes and short stories written by the author while climbing the 46 Adirondack high peaks between August 1973 and January 1994, and is further described by the publisher as: "Captivating stories about hiking the Adirondack Mountains during the harsh winter season and tales of both the mountains and the people during this often overlooked, yet spectacular period for climbing."[15] North Country Books, Inc., located in Utica, New York, was founded in 1965 and publishes and distributes quality books about New York State and New England. Their selection includes history, biography, folklore, children’s, nature, field and trail guides, art, rustic furniture, cookbooks, and photography. Excerpt (from "Gothics and Sawteeth"):

"And there I was in an era when clouds dominated the skies, and the sun seemed to exist only in my mind and in old photographs. Soon the colors of the landscapes and the clouds and the open spaces around me began to run dry. No longer could I differentiate the motives of the wind swept skies from the definition of the horizon. The rocks and the snow, the wind and the ice, blended together and their very meaning became elusive with every step. The mountains that I had become so dependent upon for spiritual conversation and mental contemplation were in the process of turning their backs on my very soul."
