Character outline

Background

Shinpachi grew up with a sick father who eventually died leaving his sister to take care of him (it is for that reason he fells so close and protective of her). Having lost the Joi War Japan was forced to abolish swords which created problems for their already struggling dojo. When he got older he got a job at a restaurant, it is there he heard the music from the pop idol Otsu and has since been the leader of her cheering squad. It is also there that he meets Gintoki (having been tripped and spilled his parfait) who he decides to work under to learn the way of the samurai.

Personality

Shinpachi is a serious man but he has been known to over react about small things. He also likes to sing along with Otsu's songs and has a terrible singing voice. He is completely devoted to Otsu believeing not to like any other idol but her and discipline his subordinates for minor things. He lives in his family dojo with his sister but spends his time with Gintoki and Kagura doing odd jobs.

Despite his appearance and sometimes lazy actions, Shinpachi is a more than competent swordsman of his family's Kakidō-Ryu fighting style. His weapon of choice is a bokuto (wooden sword) just like Gintoki's but he has been known to use a real sword and a Japanese spear.
