Series 1: 2007

The first series primarily revolves around the team forming following several creature attacks in the Forest of Dean, as well as Cutter's search for Helen, his missing wife, who has suddenly reappeared after eight years. Throughout the series Nick Cutter seems to become romantically involved with Lester's PA, Claudia Brown. In the series finale Cutter travels through an anomaly and upon his return he discovers that Claudia Brown no longer exists and that the timeline has changed.

A sighting of a strange creature occurs on the outskirts of the Forest of Dean, leading a small group of people to investigate it. They find a Scutosaurus in the forest and discover a time anomaly that leads to the late Permian period, 250 million years ago. Teaming up together, the people soon realise that a Gorgonopsid has also come through the mysterious time portal and the race is on to find it before it can kill any people. A London Underground cleaner is bitten by a giant spider and is sent to the hospital with weird side-effects. James Lester brings the team together to investigate and they find another anomaly that leads to the Late Carboniferous. Using powerful lights to send the spiders back, the team are then attacked by an Arthropleura which bites and poisons Stephen. First appearance of Tom and Duncan

A man at a local swimming pool is killed by a Mosasaur when an anomaly appears there. It closes and reopens several miles away in a reservoir. Cutter realizes that the anomalies have the ability to move, and his theory is confirmed when the anomaly opens for a third time in a residential basement. A plumber is attacked there by a Hesperornis and Cutter is forced to travel through the anomaly to find his ex-wife, Helen.

Helen escapes from custody at the Home Office by taking the team to an anomaly that unleashes a flock of dodos that carry deadly parasites capable of infecting humans. As the Dodos escape into the streets Connor's friends Tom and Duncan capture one of the Dodos, but Tom is bitten and starts goes on a rampage leading Cutter and the team on a mission to find him. A Pteranodon turns up at a golf course, and trouble begins when a golfer is killed. Cutter and his team go to investigate and find the anomaly in the sky. The team track the flying reptile down to send it back to its time, but Cutter and Claudia Brown become trapped in a mansion with a flock of vicious pterosaurs ready to attack. As Cutter goes to get help, Claudia finds her fate in the unlikely hands of Helen Cutter.

Helen Cutter returns and informs the team that she has seen a highly evolved predator from the future enter the present day. After dispatching the adult Future Predator, Nick and Helen decide to take its young back through the anomaly in the Forest of Dean, hoping to locate the anomaly to the future, a decision that proves to be a mistake when the creatures break free. Upon his return to the present Cutter is shocked to discover that Claudia Brown has mysteriously disappeared. Last appearance of Claudia Brown and Tom Ryan

Series 2: 2008

The timeline change in Series 1 happens in its finale, and Cutter gets accustomed to the new universe for the majority of Series 2. By now Cutter no longer seems to care about Helen and Claudia Brown has completely disappeared, being replaced by the identical Jenny Lewis. Throughout the series Cutter and his team try to discover who at the ARC is a traitor, it was later revealed that this was Claudia Brown's replacement Oliver Leek who had been manipulating things from behind the scenes. Series 2 marks the last known appearance of Stephen Hart who dies after giving his life to save Cutter, the team and the general public from an attack by a series of creatures in episode 13.

As Cutter tries to come to terms with Claudia Brown's disappearance he struggles to adjust to working with her replacement, the slimy Oliver Leek. Meanwhile, bloodthirsty Deinonychus are rampaging through a shopping mall and the team are called in to deal with the situation. When the team arrives back at the ARC, they are introduced to Jenny Lewis, the ARC's new PR officer, and a doppelgänger of Claudia Brown. Cutter and his team find themselves pursuing giant carnivorous worms that start to appear in an eerie fog in a local office block after emerging through another anomaly. As the team deals with the problem, Cutter becomes preoccupied with the team's new PR executive, Jenny Lewis, whom he is convinced is actually Claudia Brown. First appearance of Caroline Steele

Connor's new anomaly detector is set up in the ARC, but there are fears that the device does not work when another violent attack is reported at Blue Sky Park. Investigations lead the team to deduce the attacks took place before the detector came online, while a Sabre-toothed cat roams the park killing at will. The team begin to suspect someone knows of the creature's presence and is covering up for it.

After a teenager mysteriously disappears, the team discover that a highly unusual shark has attacked a teenage boy on the Thames. Cutter is convinced that the creature's unique morphology is the result of further evolution - that it's a species from the future. They then split up to find the creature's lair but trouble brews when Abby is dragged through an anomaly by another carnivorous species from the future: the Mer.

A young girl searching for her dog ends up stuck on the other side of an anomaly, leading Cutter and Stephen to mount a rescue mission into the sandy desert past. But when the anomaly closes, the trio end up trapped with a horde of giant Silurian scorpions which track them from hearing vibrations in the sand. As the three of them fight for survival, Cutter discovers they are not alone: someone is actively trying to sabotage their work.

A Columbian Mammoth slips through an anomaly, rampaging along the M25 scattering cars in its wake. As Cutter and the rest of the team take on the task of stopping it, Stephen is shocked when Helen returns with plans of her own. After taking the Mammoth back to the ARC, Cutter decides to set a trap to root out the traitor in their camp, leaving Lester to fight for his life against a Future Predator that has infiltrated the ARC. Cutter and the team are kidnapped and held in a military bunker by Oliver Leek, who has plans to be the most powerful man in the world by controlling a room full of fearsome predators he has captured from past anomalies. As the team fight for their survival, Stephen deals with a Silurian scorpion which Leek has unleashed onto a busy beach. Back at the bunker, the team must find a way to stop Leek, but it will require one of them to sacrifice their life... Last appearance of Oliver Leek, Caroline Steele and Stephen Hart

Series 3: 2009

Primeval Series 3 began airing on ITV on March 28th, following German TV on March 23, 2009, and Spanish public TV on March 22. Producer Tim Bradley revealed that in the third series there will be a scenario at an airport, with a Giganotosaurus called "G-Rex" by the producers. There will also be a big sequence in the ARC. Helen Cutter will reappear, and the series finale will feature a future world. The first trailer for series three was aired in late November, showing clips of forthcoming episodes. The third is the final series, as ITV1 announced its decision on 15 June 2009 to axe the show.

An exhibition of ancient Egyptian relics comes to the British Museum and an anomaly opens in a mysterious monument called the ‘Sun Cage’. A Pristichampsus, believed in Ancient Egypt to be the demon Ammut, emerges and proceeds to wreak havoc in London. Cutter, Abby, and new head of security Captain Becker pursue it through the city while Connor and new recruit, the Egyptologist, Sarah Page try to block off the anomaly and prevent more Pristichampsus from coming through. Meanwhile, Lester encounters a new adversary: the ambitious Christine Johnson. First appearance of Sarah Page, Captain Becker and Christine Johnson

Three teenage boys break into a house and a Future Gremlin attacks them. Only one boy manages to escape. With the anomaly closed, the Gremlin remains stuck in the house for the next 14 years, by which time Cutter's model has led him to predict that another anomaly will appear in that very house. He sends Connor, Abby and Jenny to investigate but the three have a run-in with the creature and PC Danny Quinn, who is trying to find out who murdered his brother. First appearance of Danny Quinn

An anomaly opens in a London hospital, causing several Diictodon to emerge. They promptly chew through the power cables cutting the power to the building. Cutter, Abby, Connor and Becker arrive to investigate as does journalist Mick Harper, who wants to get evidence of the creatures to expose to the public. Meanwhile, Helen, "The Cleaner" and their clone of Cutter infiltrate the ARC so that they can ask the real Cutter about the mysterious artifact. When the real Cutter returns Helen confronts him, informing him that she has to stop the ARC's research from destroying the world...even if it means killing her husband. Mick Harper steals an anomaly detector from Jenny's car and uses it to track down an anomaly at an airport, bringing Nigel Marven with him to identify the creature, yet when a Giganotosaurus comes through the anomaly, the team has to not only stop the dinosaur destroying an airport and a Boeing 747, but also stop the journalists from broadcasting its existence to the world. Luckily for the team, they have unexpected assistance from Danny Quinn, who manages to lure the creature back to its own time. Danny Quinn is drafted in to help the team when a fast-growing flesh-eating fungus from the future is transferred to the present by a businessman's assistant, who in turn passes the spores onto his employer, Sir Richard Bently. Bently slowly turns into a Fungus Creature as a result. The team manages to bring the creature back to the ARC, where Jenny is trapped in the main control room with it and forced to fight for her life. After her recent discovery of Cutter's picture of Claudia Brown and her near-death experience, Jenny decides that she's had enough: she resigns from her job at the ARC, leaving the team in Danny's hands. When the ARC is taken over by Christine Johnson and the military in search of the artifact, Danny and the team flee to a safehouse in the woods: in truth, an old cabin that has been abandoned since the 1930s. With no technology or weapons but their own resourcefulness, the team not only have to defend themselves from Johnson's soldiers, but also a pack of carnivorous Terror Birds that emerge from a nearby anomaly.

A Dracorex comes through an anomaly, trying to escape from a 14th century knight who believes he is hunting a dragon. The team are forced to find and save the life of the Dracorex, and return the confused knight to his own world before he kills anyone, out of belief they are demons.

An anomaly opens at a race car test track and a Megopteran, a insect from the future, comes through. It is carnivorous and lethal, and the team must draw on all their resources to get it back to its home. However, things get complicated when Jack decides to find out what his sister Abby really does for a living, and inadvertently drives through an anomaly into a future world inhabited by future predators. The team must now make a dangerous search mission to the future to rescue Jack, then escape with their lives. Last appearance of Jack Maitland

The team have to deal with a herd of Embolotherium from the Eocene. Danny arrives with a mysterious woman called Eve who he first saw in the Future; having rescued her from Christine Johnson, they endeavour to save everyone from the stampede. Upon their return to the ARC, the team are shocked to discover that Eve is Helen Cutter in disguise, who takes Johnson hostage. Holding her at gunpoint, Helen steals the artifact and vows once again to stop the ARC's research destroying the world. Helen then leaves Johnson in the future, where she is torn apart by a future predator, and makes her escape. The team decide they must find and stop Helen before more people die as a result of her actions. Last appearance of James Lester, Christine Johnson and Captain Wilder

Danny, Abby and Connor travel to the future in pursuit of Helen while Sarah and Captain Becker try to evade Megopterans rampaging through Johnson's old headquarters. Meanwhile, the trio discover Helen plans to prevent the evolution of humanity in order to save the world, resulting in a chase across Cretaceous North America and into Pliocene Africa. Danny confronts Helen at the location of the human ancestor, Australopithecus, only to find she has poisoned a small number already. A Deinonychus that followed Danny through the anomaly charges at Helen and knocks her off a cliff, killing them both. Danny then makes his way back to the anomaly, only to have it close in front of him. Trapped in the past and separated from each other, will Danny, Abby and Connor ever get home? Last episode of the drama (at present).

Weekly ratings

The first episode gained a final viewing figure of 7.09 million people. The series averaged 6.39 million viewers. When shown in Germany it gained a total audience of 2.78 million viewers. These figures do not take into account the viewing figures for repeats of the programme. After all 7 episodes, series 2 averaged 6.29 million viewers making a very slight drop of 100,000 from the series 1 average.
