A fist.

A fist is a hand that has the fingers curled into the palm and the thumb retracted. This is typically used in unarmed combat, such as fist-fighting. This type of hand formation is often used to become "Battle Ready". See also Punch (strike). The clenched fist hand gesture is a sign of defiance in some cultures.

It can refer to:

  • In falconry, the hand covered by a heavy glove as in boxin, on which the hawk perches
  • "in a ... fist" sometimes used instead of "in a ... hand" when referring to clumsy handwriting
  • Fisting, the act of the inserting fingers or the whole hand in a vagina or rectum for sexual pleasure.
  • "fist", the individual characteristics of a telegraph operator's style striking the telegraph key
  • Faust, a figure in German lore
  • Fist, a recurring character in the BBC 3 situation comedy series Ideal.
  • FIST, a rare sequel to the Pretty Fighter series created by Imagineer for the Saturn only in Japan.
  • A Raised fist, a salute used by political and social activists.
