So yeah if anybody actually ever looks at this, you've probably noticed that I just did a fairly large edit here... Some of the information that was here was moved over to my nice shiny new article on The district, some of it stayed, and some of it just seemed irrelevant or unimportant and thus was completely ditched. But yeah if anybody feels like expanding this article that would be excellent. In the article on the district I put in links for new articles on high school east and high school west, but thinking about it some more it should probably only link to subsections of this article on the east and west buildings... So yeah I guess those two sections along with a brief introduction and probably at least a little bit about the history of the school and maybe a list of past principals would be a great place to start for this article... I just need to have some more time to get around to working on it so I can get some of this stuff done. I doubt anybody else is actually reading this so I guess it will just be me talking to myself. Woohoo!

Meaning of Shenendehowa

Shenendehowa is a great name. Including its meaning in the article would be a great way to make it more interesting. LizardWizard 01:37, August 21, 2005 (UTC)

If you ever read this again, I would suggest that you find a way to put it into the article on Shenendehowa Central School District. It means Great Plains, and I might get around to putting it in at some point, I just really don't think it belongs in this article, as it is the district's name, not just the name of the high school. DoC352 (talk) 04:50, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Title

This article talks too much about the district as a whole and not enough about the high school in particular. Thus I would reccomend merging this article with the article on Shenendehowa Central School District and either redirecting this page there, or writing a new article about the high school. DoC352 (talk) 23:43, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Little Update: I've started working on a more comprehensive article that uses some of the information from this one, and I'll probably end up putting that up under Shenendehowa Central School District and then I'll try to make a better article for this page that is specifically about the high school, and then I might work on articles for the other schools in the district as well... Ummm

There was a amazing food fight the last day of school this year at the West building, so I don't know why that was taken out. And don't tell me it's not important enough to be on the page, because that was epic.

Wikipedia is a encyclopedia, a food fight is not a criminal offence, it is of no public concern, it did not even make the local news.Tjb891 18:44, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PUT THE FOOD FIGHT IN BEFORE I GET CHUCK NORRIS ON YO ASS...!

Pool

I added the bit about the pool to the page even though it is being built on the middle school because I found those articles to be missing. Citation is from the Board of Educations minutes near the beginning of the linked page.

GUNS

Does everyone forget that in 1999 a gun was brough to HS West? It was caught before it could be used as a "scare tactic"

source it and it can be addedTjb891 18:45, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bias? Accurate information?

I live in a city nearby Shenendehowa, and I have never heard of pipe bombs exploding in the school. This may be true, but the sources are not specific. Also, the article seems biased against the school. I don't know enough about the school to correct it, but there seem to be problems with the article. Wolps 20:54, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, I have never heard of pipe bombs either, wouldn't that be on the news like colombine. The article is inherently biased and is not NPOV. The shotgun inccident is credible involving a mentally unstable youth who recently was released from the court mandated mental hospital, he was tackled by a state policeman Steven A. Nutting and a male administrator with his loaded gun in the cafeteria.was decorated.Tjb891 21:39, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am removing west building, the building is irrelevant in this case because it is probable the transmission of syphilis did not happen in the school building.Tjb891 22:52, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well teens do have syphilis, you can't be denial about it. If it was your kid, i'm sorry but thats not right and aparently something is wrong. No matter what school, the child is in Shen District and others have the right to know about it. (UTC)

Editing is being done from this School

Many edits and vandalisms have come from IP 163.153.122.102 (

This is registered to Shenendehowa's ISP. I suggest we block this adress from this page so studnets who are fooling around in the computer lab when they are supposed to be working to vandalise the page for fun. I believe that most would't have the motivation to vandalise it for fun from home. okay look i am a student in shen and most of it is true the food fight the knife adn the boy climbing the tree and wouldnt come down that was sooo funny but shen isnt all THAT good i mean they didnt put the fight between two girls and that was a huge thing! i even got front row seats omg i cant WAIT for next year its gunna be great lol but i do know that the whole dease thing didnt happen in the building BUT the students that had go TO that building everyday and theres ways u can get an std. my point is u need to get some students points of veiw that actually go to shen and the montors could care less honestly some of the montors are more like friends than an authority i mean come one they hang out with students during lunch because they become friends and thats good but still some montors could care less. i kno for a fact that a food fight was suppose to happen 7th period but some ppl chickened out so there wasnt one thats why the boy climbed the tree but shen ppls will be shen pplz and u can't change it so u have to deal wit the fact of how ppl act and get over it i mean i did so why can't u ppl?

the girl above me needs to shut up,shes a freshmen who knows nothing about the east building. she doesnt know what shes talking about. the food fight was planned for 6th period."i know;)" i dont really care about the std's that was just some man whore that passed it around.and the knife thing was just a kid who forgot it was in his pocket and since the kid had such a bad record there was no simpathy.pipe bombs are before my time so no comment on those. the insult at the monitors, i dont know what school this chick goes to but shen monitors are on our ass every second of the day. "but shen isnt all THAT good i mean they didnt put the fight between two girls and that was a huge thing! i even got front row seats omg i cant WAIT for next year its gunna be great lol"I dont understand why this girl blames shen for not having a fight in the article, if she had any commen sense she would realize this site isnt run by shen.so dont listen to Ms. imature-bitchAlot up there, she has no clue what she's talking about...

there were several bomb threats in the middle schools and some knifes were brought in but none were used. There were also swatitzkas writtem on bathroom walls.

Okay...

I think this is totally neutral. I actually go to Shen and so far, everything I've read is true. It's not even like they're saying "OMGZ SHEN IS SUCH A DUMP IT SHOULD BE TORN DOWN." Honestly, I think it's pretty neutral. Just because it's not exactly cheery topics doesn't mean it's negative against the school! That's like not allowing an entry on Germany because there's a mention of Hitler.

I think that maybe the fact that so many of the allegations are unrefereced is what made me concerned about the POV status of the article. As well as being true, thhe information needs to be Verifiable. So I think that references for things like:
  • numerous sexual encounters and pregnancies were reported to have occurred
  • the sale and abuse of illegal drugs (such as marijuana and LSD) ran rampant throughout the junior and senior high schools.
  • Administration and faculty were criticized when they responded to the sale of illegal drugs by increasing and tightening hallway monitoring
  • In 1989, an emotionally troubled student brandished a shotgun in the halls and cafeteria of the school.
  • In 1990, two students were arrested after they severely beat and hospitalized a varsity athlete.
  • In 1991, principal Ed Curran was arrested in Clifton Park for driving while intoxicated and his wife was cited for assaulting an officer.
  • In 1992, pipe bombs were set off in several second floor hallway lockers.
  • In 1993, a pornographic film was displayed on the cafeteria television displays.
  • In 1994, a former student burglarized the school at night, stealing electronic equipment and musical instruments.
  • In 2005, a knife was brought to school by a student, but not used.
need to be urgently addressed. Otherwise unverified claims may need to be removed. If this stuff is all true (and notable), then some references should be easy to come by (like the one already included about the bomb threats).
To make the article more consistent with other school articles I'm going to include a basic infobox. If you're at the school then maybe you could help fill in some of the infomation? Inner Earth 11:12, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But it IS verifiable! I go there! I've seen this stuff happen! Just because it's not written down anywhere that the public can acess, doesn't mean it's not true!

I'm not saying it's not true (I have no idea whether it is or not), but wikipedia needs information to be verifiable - the 'policy in a nutshell' states:
Information on Wikipedia must be reliable. Facts, viewpoints, theories, and arguments may only be included in articles if they have already been published by reliable and reputable sources. Articles should cite these sources whenever possible. Any unsourced material may be challenged and removed.
I understand that this might be fustrating for you, but we have work by these guidelines to make sure everything in the encyclopedia is true. Inner Earth 17:32, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken out the material that remains unverified. For it to be re-included, it needs be verified by citations from reliable and reputable sources. This means that witnessing any of the events in question is insufficient evidence. If you need any help with the citations themselve, please just ask me. Inner Earth 16:34, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So you removed cited content because the Albany Times Union, the largest newspaper in the region, isn't a reliable and reputable source? Cool! --69.143.57.75 03:45, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
newspaper are pretty bad at keeping old record usually but the shotgun thing is true, I have no idea about the rest of the stuffTjb891 18:49, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Shotgun in 1989 was absolutely real. The student was subdued by police in the court yard outside the cafeteria. The students brother had died of a skiing accident a few years earlier. 98.169.246.124 (talk) 03:36, 9 December 2008 (UTC) W1ldrover[reply]

Smaller Learning Communities

If someone has removed this section from the main page, PLEASE add it back on! Steinize that! 20:03, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Anyone repeatedly adding this section back will be blocked from editing, since the aforementioned section is in violation of numerous Wikipedia policies, including but not limited to: WP:V, WP:NOR, and WP:NPOV. Leuko 21:51, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Leuko since this is a well written piece and not vandalism could you please specify which sections you specifically object to so some of the information can be added.Tjb891 03:33, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously we aren't reading the same section. What I was reading was one guy's personal opinion and POV pushing on how he disliked SLC's. The information can be added if attributed to reliable sources, and are cited. Leuko 07:14, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't terribly important, but

I noticed that it said the TVs weren't used on 9/11, and they definitley were. I don't know about the high schools because I didn't go there at the time, but they were used and had news on all day in the middle schools. Amy 99xx 14:08, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I graduated in 1986. Great school. The unanswered question is: Why plainsmen? There are no plains in upstate NY. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.244.99.5 (talk) 16:13, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Keeping Neutral

Please keep in mind when editing Wikipedia, that you must remain neutral, that your information must be cited, and that your information must be encyclopedic. Discussing "top schools" or "common schools" as well as such subjective word like "highly qualified" would counter the spirit of Wikipedia. If there is information that makes SHS notable, please add it, but do so in a neutral manner. See WP:NPOV.

AP class grade

In shenet grapevine, it states that collegeboard AP scores are not considered when teachers give students grades in school transcripts. How can that be a policy? We need consider collegeboard AP scores because it decides if students learned in the AP classes. If not considered in giving grades, at least should be in the weight that calculates the students rank.Turbulence1996 (talk) 18:55, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
