Shawnee Mountain is a family oriented ski resort in Eastern Pennsylvania located right outside East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, I-80, exit 309, next to the Delaware River in the easternmost part of The Poconos.

Shawnee Mountain has a summit elevation of 1,350 feet (410 m) and vertical elevation change of 700 ft (210 m) There are 125 acres (0.51 km2) of skiing terrain. The mountain has a total of 23 trails, the longest of which is 5,100 feet (1,554 m), and two terrain parks. The Bushkill Park currently has many features including rails, boxes, a set of stairs, and a Tepee Wall Ride. The other park features boxes and rails.

Shawnee Mountain has nine lifts (from left to right). There is a triple chairlift called the Arrowhead Chairlift. There is a quad chairlift that is called the Tomahawk chairlift. There is a double-double chairlift (two chairlifts together). Normally, one chairlift is open). Then is another double chairlift (only one) called the Bushkill Chairlift that takes people over the Bushkill Terrain Park. This is a very narrow chairlift and the longest one. Then at the begginer's hill a small double chairlift. Next to it is a belt that you stand on. Then at the learning center is another belt. Then last is a snowtubing belt. It also features 100% snow making, night skiing and snow tubing. The mountain summit receives an average of 50 inches (1,300 mm) of snowfall each winter. The resort opened in 1975.

In 1975 an avant-garde developer added skiing to the amenities for his timeshare program in Shawnee. Karl Hope opened 4 trails, two lifts and a cozy lodge at the summit of Shawnee Mountain. In the first few weeks skiing was free (the cashier’s window wasn’t completed), the price went up to a whopping $6.00! Complimentary coffee and donut service came from the tailgate of a pick-up and rentals were available from the back or a U-Haul. The lodge can now be rented out for those interested in hosting large groups overnight.

Three years later base operations moved from the top to bottom with the Hop Lodge and a rental building. 1983 saw the risky venture of night skiing more than double the skier turnout.

Today, owned by Ski Shawnee, Inc., Shawnee Mountain boasts one of the finest skiing/snowboarding facilities in the East, with 23 slopes and trails, new learning center a nationally recognized ski school with outstanding children’s programs, and The Pocono Plunge Snow Tubing Park. State of the art snowmaking and grooming, the nation’s largest ski rental shop, the 3,000’ Bushkill Terrain Park & new Incubator Park, tremendous lift capacity of 12,600 skiers per hour, and a service oriented staff make Shawnee Mountain so special.
