Admiral John Carter R.N. of Castle Martin.[1] (see Carter-Campbell of Possil aided in the capture of Le Guil-laume Tell of 84 guns and 1000 men.
He served on the coast of France and off the coast of Genoa.
Admiral Carter went in the pursuit of the combined French and Spanish squadrons to the West Indies and subsequently bore a part in the Battle of Trafalgar. Later, he visited the Baltic and the West Indies and engaged in much difficult service throughout his professional career.
Admiral Lord Nelson awarded him with his sword and telescope for distinguished service under his command whilst serving on the battleships, The Victory and The Laviathan (see O'Byrne's naval history).
