Walter Joseph Phillips (1884 – 1963) was a painter and woodcutter. Phillips was born in Barton-on-Humber, Lincolnshire, England. After studying abroad in South Africa and Paris, he emigrated to Canada. He spent the rest of his life in the United States and Canada. Phillips died in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1963.

Phillips is famous for his woodcutings and paintings. His artistic career spanned from the 1900s through the 1940s. In 1940 he was asked to become a resident artist at what was then known as The Banff School of Fine Arts where he played a seminal role in the development of their visual arts program. The Walter Phillips Gallery, which focuses on contemporary art, is named after him.
