Magra is situated in the Derwent Valley and is in close proximity to the local metropolis of New Norfolk. Magra was settled in the mid to late 19th century by German Waldensian Mormon settlers. Since settlement Magra has thrived to become a community of more then 300 people. Magra's culture is at the moment undefined.

Geography

Magra's climate contains similar features to everywhere else in Tasmania. It has a long and enduring winter with temperatures of below zero uncommon. In Summertime temperatures of above 20 degrees can occur too. Magra was established on the hilly countryside of the Derwent Valley.

History

Magra is said to have been founded in 1848 when William Bernard Healy II and his extended family arrived. They named the town after the prophet of their religion Herman Willing Magra. They established a small community that resisted contact from outsiders and preached their religion of Waldensian Mormonism. This small family without contact from strangers increased in numbers throughout the century. Now the Healy family is well established within Magra and they are all still known to be relatively close. It has also been populated in recent years by foreigners. Particularly low to lower class people from it's neighbour New Norfolk. It is also well known and prided by most of Magra’s (Healy family in particular) that in 1942 William Bernard Healy XII while, serving in North Africa in the Bush Arty during the siege of Tobruk knocked four British Matilda tanks and an American B-42. For his action William Bernard Healy XII received the Iron Cross

Culture

Magra is said to have no culture like the rest of Australia but, the people strongly disagree. A number of people feel very strongly about there heritage. A state government funded study by the Avent & Co. research institute has conclude that "Magra has now developed a strong culture centered on recklessness and irrefutable behavior. Alcoholism is rampant, as is speeding and incest." A local youth Sam Healy cited "I did 140 when I was late to Maccas and 170 on a gravel road the other day". Sam healy is now a local legend, he once walked into the ymca and tried to lift 80kg's but apparently he couldnt be bothered. Jenna is awesome she used to bash him when they were little hahaha what a dick
