Juniper Advisory is a boutique investment bank based in Chicago, with additional offices in Houston and Nashville. Founded in January, 2006 by veteran investment bankers James Burgdorfer and David Gordon, the firm provides strategic financial advice on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other corporate finance matters.

Juniper’s principals have focused exclusively on the hospital industry for over 20 years. The firm remains intentionally small, specialized, and independent. It is particularly active in advising government owned, 501(c)(3), faith-based, and educational healthcare systems on joint ventures, strategic partnerships, and lease structures.

Background
Members of Juniper came from several larger Wall Street firms, including: Citigroup, J.P. Morgan, Piper Jaffray, Morgan Stanley, A.G. Becker, Nuveen, and Ponder & Co., as well as healthcare companies such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Northwestern University Medical School, and Ardent (a Welsh Carson Anderson & Stowe portfolio company).

Transactions
Juniper’s principals have completed transactions with Ascension Health, Providence Health, St. Joseph of Orange, Humana, Catholic Healthcare West, HealthSouth, Community Health Systems, Capella Healthcare (a GTCR portfolio company), HCA (backed by private equity sponsors Bain Capital, KKR, and Merrill Lynch), and Vanguard (a Blackstone Group portfolio company).

Industry Involvement
The principals are active writers and speakers in the non-profit healthcare industry, and are frequently cited in Modern Healthcare, The Bond Buyer, Governance Institute, and other publications. Recent topics include consolidation in the healthcare industry, the merger market post Wall Street meltdown, and non-profit boards’ responsibilities in change of control transactions.
