A Naughty Chair is a device used by some parents to administer a time out discipline to toddlers. It is considered to be a means for parents to avoid physically harming their toddlers, but still enforcing a behavioural change. The term and its use in child-care gained widespread fame from the television programme Supernanny.
Naughty Chair works by removing misbehaving toddlers to a location whilst everything else in the household carries on without their involvement. The "chair" can be a chair, step, corner or anywhere where there are no distractions and the child is old enough to sit. They are told to remain there for a fixed period as punishment and allowing them time to reflect on their actions and consequences of it.
