Moderate Party of Rhode Island
The Moderate Party of Rhode Island is one of three official cotemporary political parties in the State of Rhode Island alongside the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. The Moderate Party of Rhode Island gained official party status and ballot access on August 18th, 2009.[1] The basic platform of the Moderate Party is generally considered centrist and focuses on what the party calls the 4 E's: economy, ethics, education, and the environment.[2] The Moderate Party has been strict on not basing their party platform on social issues, instead, the focus remains on the 4 E's.
The Moderate Party plans on running candidates for various positions in the state in the upcoming 2010 elections. The current chairman, Mr. Kenneth Block, has stated that the party is to focus primarily on the General Assembly, however, the possibility of a candidate for governor and other state offices is very likely.[3] The Moderate Party recently hired Christine Hunsinger, who briefly served as press secretary for Democratic Congressional hopeful Elizabeth Dennigan, as their new Executive Director.[4]
