Romany Malco, Jr. (born November 18, 1968) is an American actor and music producer.

Early life

Malco was born in Brooklyn, New York to a Trinidadian father.[1] He began his career at the age of seven, when he picked up a microphone and started rapping. As a teen, he moved to Texas and formed the rap group, R.M.G., and upon relocating to Los Angeles, the crew signed a deal with Virgin Records. The group's name was changed to College Boyz and their first big hit, "Victim of the Ghetto” went to #1 on the rap charts.

Acting career

Malco was working as a music producer on The Pest starring John Leguizamo when the actor, impressed by Malco's dynamic personality, encouraged him to pursue acting.

Malco played Conrad Shepard on the show Weeds, and recently appeared in the films The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Blades of Glory, Baby Mama, and The Chateau. He also portrayed rapper MC Hammer in the TV movie Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story, which aired on VH1 in 2001. In 2000, he played Jerry Hooten in Level 9.

In regards to his career, friend Judd Apatow advised Malco that street cred is important and that it is necessary to be selective when taking roles. "I didn’t come to this business broke and needing a job," Malco said of his career, "I actually came to this business saying no."[2]

Malco just finished shooting the pilot for the NBC comedy, Off Duty co-starring with Bradley Whitford.[3]

Personal life

Malco is married to former professional figure skater and body double Taryn Dakha, whom he met on the set of The Love Guru. They currently reside in Redondo Beach, CA.
