Five.Bolt.Main

Five.Bolt.Main is a hard rock music group from Louisville, Kentucky. The band is most notable for featuring Flaw vocalist Chris Volz.

History

Five.Bolt.Main came together after Flaw was dropped from Universal Records in 2004. Chris Volz met with Ivan Arnold and Ben Patrick – whom both were part of Flaw prior to their breakthrough album Through the Eyes in 2001. At the time, both Ivan and Ben were in a project called Silent Q, which by the time Flaw disbanded, had enough material written to put an album together. Silent Q included guitarists Aaron Welenken and Jason Chandler. At this point Volz joined the band, which was tentatively titled Vent, but was later changed to Five.Bolt.Main due to legal reasons. Within 7 months the band had scored themselves a record deal with independent label Rock Ridge Music.a

Five.Bolt.Main's debut album Venting was released on September 13, 2005. The band went through several lineup changes since its release. Roughly a month after the album debuted, members Jason Chandler, Ben Patrick, and Aaron Weleken left the group. Rock Ridge Music claimed "musical differences" and "unforeseen rigors of the road" as the reasons for leaving. However, the exiting members cited Chris Volz's alcohol and drug abuse.[1] Kobie Jackson (Primer 55), Alex Cando (Darwin’s Waiting Room), and Ronny Paige were recruited to fill in, with Alex and Ronny later staying on a permanent basis. To date, the album has sold nearly 25,000 copies which some would consider to be a decent amount due to the lack of exposure the band had.

June 2006 also saw the departure of Ivan Arnold, who left the group due to growing personal differences with Volz, following a well-publicized onstage dispute with the vocalist at Club Sonar in Baltimore, Maryland. [2] Five.Bolt.Main's remaining tour dates were canceled, after attempts by remaining members and Rock Ridge to find a replacement drummer fell through.

On October 10, 2006, Rock Ridge released Live, which was recorded in Louisville during their 2006 tour. Plans to release a compilation, tentatively titled Complete, are in the works, though no substantive new material has been released or recorded by the band. Questions as to the authenticity of these albums remain, as most members of the band have not consented to their release.

On February 28, 2007, a press release from Rock Ridge Music stated that Five.Bolt.Main had disbanded, and Chris Volz would release a solo album in the fall of 2007. [3]

Current

In August 2009 Ivan Arnold and Alex Cando have reformed Five.Bolt.Main. Recruiting 2 members of Alex's current band "Silence is Broken" Aaron Fishel (vocals) and Jamison Lee (guitar) as well as Ivan Arnolds good friend Dave Crabtree(guitar) from "Inner Blue".

The band did a show in Rockford IL in August 2009 with future plans to include a few shows around the midwest.

Ivan Arnold's blog taken from their myspace page;

Here's the story.

As some of you may know, back before Five Bolt bit the dust the subject of continuing on without Volz was brought up. I was probably the biggest supporter of this approach. My reasoning was then, and still is now, that since all of our problems came primarily from Chris, continuing to replace everyone around him was only ever going to be a short term solution to a long term problem. Long story short, we were told that our label would withdraw their support if we decided to proceed in that direction, I left the band, and the rest, as they say, is history... until now!!!!!

Recently I went to Rockford, IL to hang out with Alex. Turns out his band, Silence Is Broken, needs another band to play with them on Aug. 7th. One of the SIB guys (I think it was Jamison) made a joke that if Volz can tour the country as FLAW without any other original members, than we should get Five Bolt back together with me, Alex, and a coupla guys from SIB to play this show they have coming up. And we said, hmmmmmmm...... OK!!!!

So there it is. Five.Bolt.Main. Live in concert. Me (drums), Alex (bass), Jamison (gtr) and Aaron (vox) from SIB, and Dave (gtr) from Inner Blue. I hope anyone reasonably close to Rockford can make it out. We'll hang out, have a blast and you'll get to see a full set of Five Bolt songs minus the drunk guy who can't remember his own lyrics. Plus Silence is Broken is playing, and they're just friggin' awesome. And it's only $5.00. I mean c'mon. You can't go wrong.

Finally, just like Joe Namath, here is a list of things I can guarantee WILL NOT happen at a new Five.Bolt.Main show.

1) I guarantee our new singer WILL NOT choke slam his girlfriend against the van.

2) I also guarantee he WILL NOT leave the stage mid-set to take a crap. Or at least, if he does, he will find a clever and funny way to disguise this move, not just announce it on mic. Again, to those of you present at the show in Chicago in 2006 where this actually happened, my deepest apologies.

3) I promise you that we WILL NOT attempt to drunkenly cover any songs we don't know. Specifically, we will not be attempting to play War Pigs by Black Sabbath for about thirty minutes until the promoter makes us stop. If you happened to witness our last attempt in Detroit in 2006, again, I am very sorry.

4) No on stage fist fighting. That's right. None. You heard it here first.

In short, it's going to be a fucking rock show. All of us are taking this seriously, and want to let everyone see what Five.Bolt.Main can do when it's firing on all cylinders. So please, if you can make it, come hang out with us one last time.

See you there,

Ivan
