James J. Silva (born December 14, 1984 in Template:City-state) is an American football safety for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League. He was signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He played college football at Boston College.

College career

In 2007, Silva recorded 125 tackles (82 solo, 43 assisted) and 8 interceptions. For this, he was named a consensus first-team All-America selection, as well as one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation's top defensive back. He was also named MVP of the 2007 Champs Sports Bowl, in which the Eagles defeated the Michigan State Spartans 24-21; Silva gained 10 tackles and two interceptions. He played in the 2008 East/West Shrine game and was voted captain by his fellow teammates[1].

Professional career

Indianapolis Colts

2008 season

Silva went undrafted in the 2008 NFL Draft and was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 2. Silva made the initial 53 man roster but the next day was demoted to the practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster in week three and made his regular season NFL debut against the Jacksonville Jaguars, recording one tackle. He recorded seventeen tackles in the 2008 season.

2009 season

In the 2009 Preseason, Jamie began returning punts and started one of the four preseason games. On September 5, 2009, Jamie made the 53 man roster cut and is currently the second string free safety. Silva recorded one tackle against the Arizona Cardinals in week 3 and two tackles against the Tennessee Titans in week 5.
