Luke Reynolds

Luke Reynolds (born April 20, 1979) is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and film composer best known for his work in Pictures And Sound and Blue Merle. He is represented exclusively by Jim Phelan and Jerimaya Grabher at Global Positioning Services in Santa Monica, CA.

Early Years

Luke Reynolds was born and raised in and around Cornwall Vermont in a geodesic dome that his parents built around 1970.

The first instruments he played were drums and ukulele. At 5, he began studying classical piano and at 10 picked up electric guitar and bass. Around the same time, he received a Tascam 4 track from his mom and with her encouragement, began recreating his favorite records on tape.


Nashville

Reynolds moved to Nashville in 1999. It was in Nashville, that he formed the band Blue Merle. The band released one record on Island in 2005, Burning In The Sun. The band performed at Lollapalooza, Farm Aid and Bonnaroo. It was also during that time that he began writing, recording and collaborating with Tim O'Brien, Béla Fleck, Bucky Baxter and Abby Washburn.

Pictures And Sound

Following the break up of Blue Merle in early 2006, Luke spent two and a half years writing a body of work which he released under the moniker Pictures And Sound in late 2008. The album was produced by Jacquire King and featured Pete McNeal on drums and Dave Wilder on bass. Also featured on the album in a guest duet, was Willie Nelson. There were two remixes of the song "100 Directions" by Ki Theory and Haaksman + Haaksman which remain unreleased.

Current Work

In 2009 he received a Grammy nomination for his songwriting on the film August Rush. He also scored the main theme for the new National Geographic TV series, "First Ascent".

He is currently based out of Los Angeles and works extensively in Nashville and Portland Oregon. He has recently been writing and recording with Tift Merritt, Ki Theory, John Alagia and Brett Dennen as well as with members of Beck, Guster, We Are Scientists and Gotan Project.
