Paula Dockery is a Republican Party member of the Florida Senate, representing the 15th District since 2003 and serving as Majority Whip from 2003 until 2004. Her district includes Lakeland, Florida. Previously she was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1997 through 2002, serving as Majority Whip from 1998 through 2000.

Dockery moved to Florida as a child, in 1968. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in Political Science from the University of Florida in 1983. Later she graduated with her Masters degree from the University of Florida. She is currently married to C.C. Dockery of North Carolina.

Senator Dockery gained widespread recognition in Florida after singlehandedly stopping the 2009 Commuter Rail legislation. Officially called SunRail, it was alleged to have been nothing more than a giveaway of taxpayer money to mega-giant railroad conglomerate CSX and other special interest groups, while others have pointed out it was a legitimate alternative to Central Florida's massive traffic congestion problem.

She has nearly 12 years of legislative experience and has been rated very positively by anti-tax, pro-life, and the NRA. Even environmental groups have lauded her concern for water and development issues.

2010 Gubernatorial campaign

On June 1, 2009 there was a draft campaign to see Senator Dockery run for Governor of Florida. On November 4, 2009 Dockery entered the race for Florida governor challenging FL Attorney General Bill McCollum for the Republican Nomination.
