Eurycea longicauda is a species of lungless salamander. It is endemic to the eastern United States. This is a "cave salamander" that frequents twilight zones of caves, occaisonally found away from precipices under debris, rocks and seepage areas with moss.[3] Ground color varies from tan, yellow, orange-red and even bright red.[1]

Subspecies

The dark-sided subspecies from Ozark County, Missouri.

The E. longicauda group is divided into three subspecies:[1]

  • E. longicauda longicauda (longtail salamander)
  • E. longicauda guttolineata (three-lined salamander)
  • E. longicauda melanopleura (dark-sided salamander)
