The Ultimate Fighter: United States vs. United Kingdom

I tried to redirect the rest of the red linked fighters to the The Ultimate Fighter: United States vs. United Kingdom page. It didn't work out the way I thought. You or another User will have to fix this, I apologize for the mistake. Justastud15 (talk) 21:38, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This has turned into one fine mess, especially with a bot redirecting all of the TUF: US vs USA variations. I'm not going to try to figure it all out tonight. If you want it resolved before I get a chance to look at it (no guarantees when that will be) then my suggestion would be for you to post about the problem at Wikipedia:Help desk. --TreyGeek (talk) 23:12, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As an aside, I do not believe "red linked" fighters should be automatically redirected to any article. They should stay red linked (or be delinked) until there is an article about that fighter. Redirecting all of the red linked fighters will just cause problems in the future (my opinion). --TreyGeek (talk) 23:17, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it would help because they redirected Jason Pierce (fighter) to The Ultimate Fighter: United States vs. United Kingdom. I just figured that they did it by using the Move option. Again I apologize, I'm still new and learning the ropes around here. Justastud15 (talk) 02:28, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The "move" option does exactly that, it moves a page. WP:REDIRECT has information on how to create a redirection (without a page move). As for Jason Pierce being a redirection, that is, in my opinion, a special situation. I would not agree it being constantly done for other fighters, again, my opinion. --TreyGeek (talk) 14:51, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

TUF Season 10

Regarding my replacing Tom Blackledge, check FightBomb.com's webpage (the source cited for both claims):

"UPDATE: A few websites have copied the FightBomb roster list and not given credit. Notably: 'MMATKO' & 'The Sun'. Wow. However they've left off a fighter that is in the house. James McSweeny! They have incorrectly reported that Tom Blackledge is in the house because they copied our list when Blackledge was merely a rumored fighter. We have since confirmed that he definitely is not in the house. The 16th fighter is James McSweeny." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.145.239.7 (talk) 23:57, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

See IP's talk page for rest of this conversation. --TreyGeek (talk) 01:38, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What you wrote makes sense. Of course, if you checked the source before you undid my edit, the issue would have been clarified. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.145.239.7 (talk) 17:57, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

4th and Long

I know you don't worry about this show but I do not know who else to ask to do this. The show 4th and Long will have a second season and I don't know how to make it like the Charm School (TV series) pages. I really don't think it will take very long to do. I was hoping I didn't have to spam this (I think the issue is a real non-issue), but could you take a look at Talk:Kim Dong-hyun? --aktsu (t / c) 19:41, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

policy of verifiability

Please answer at User talk:Mcjakeqcool#Unsolicited suggestion why you think your criticised article edits are "consistent with our policy of verifiability" and the criticised edits of User:Mcjakeqcool are not consistent. Thanks when you find the time between your main contributions to this encyclopedia. --Ilion2 (talk) 06:42, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also now at Talk:Strikeforce :) --aktsu (t / c) 15:21, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
LOL... Why did I see that coming?  ;) --TreyGeek (talk) 23:30, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, yeah, whatever... :p No my fault there's so few of us I have to spam the same 2-5 users every time (since posting at WT:MMA takes to long). At least I didn't further clutter your page by creating a new heading. :) --aktsu (t / c) 01:05, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, I meant Sea888 (or whatever their nick is) running a huge argument over a relatively minor aspect of the article. --TreyGeek (talk) 01:18, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. I knew I saw it coming, so good to see other people did too :) Seems like we're dealing with a pretty hardcore fan -- as I realised weeks ago when I tried to explain why the lead reading "Strikeforce is a world-class [...] promotion" wasn't acceptable. Oh, well. --aktsu (t / c) 01:38, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

MMA Record

Like we have talked before about removing records from wiki articles. Every time I remove the records, they end up getting re added then I get a warning. Dan Henderson, Gegard Moussasi and Forrest Griffin are ones that come to mind. 24.107.209.174 (talk) 12:11, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have you thought about using edit summaries to explain your edits? Otherwise, take it up at the MMA WikiProject and have a consensus made on it. --TreyGeek (talk) 13:05, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Cameron Dollar

Alright here is the thing, I can not site something that he stated himself. He posted on his Twitter account,

"I'm down to 161lbs mothaf$@?a 145 I'm coming and I love it when people doubt me I can't wait to fight."

I do not understand how I am to site this because if I was to site his Twitter page, it would just get reverted. 24.107.210.161 (talk) 23:07, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct. The information must come from a reliable source and his Twitter page (assuming it really is his Twitter page) would probably not qualify. For it to be in the article you'll need to find a reliable source and cite it properly. This goes for any weight class change or information regarding his contracts. --TreyGeek (talk) 23:18, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jason Riley Et al

ok.

For some reason there was no page made for the Adrenaline 4 event- so I knocked it out.

Feel free to correct as needed. I got them all linked as well.

Hello

Would you review my edited Alkek Library section under my talk/discussion page and tell me if its any better in terms of copyrighting?

MD

FYI A majority decision (MD) occurs when two of the three judging officials decide in favor of one boxer, while the third official calls the bout a draw. A majority decision officially is recorded as a win in a boxer's fight record. - Don't remember ever seeing one- but it does happen in boxingDavid.snipes (talk) 22:49, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. The way scoring is setup though, it seems it would be difficult for there to be a draw. The only one I can think of was Tito Ortiz (against Evans??). In that case the entire match was a draw after Ortiz was deducted a point for holding onto the cage.
Anyhow, I doubt a majority decision will occur in the show. If it does, that line can be added back. Thanks again for the info. --TreyGeek (talk) 23:16, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cast from TUF 10

Someone feels it is necessary to add the fights from the show to their articles and I was wondering if you could put a stop to that? 24.107.210.161 (talk) 02:11, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, I can't put a stop to it. All I can do is revert the edits if necessary. Which is the same thing that you can do. --TreyGeek (talk) 02:13, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Historic pic of Old Main

I will fix it asap. I am not the original author, we all know that. I was, more or less, guessing when it was taken. I know, though, this work is irrevocably in the public domain because it was first published in the United States without copyright notice prior to 1978. I have a bunch of photos of the school, and I must have uploaded this one like I did the others. --147.26.208.127 (talk) 18:49, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Again, I would urge you to be very careful what you claim ownership of. For example, File:AleckLibrary.JPG strongly matches the banner pic on the library's website (http://www.library.txstate.edu/about/about-the-library.html). I would hate for someone to be banned from Wikipedia for something like this. If you have uploaded material that you are not the author of I would encourage you to remove them. If you are really the author, then all should be okay. --TreyGeek (talk) 18:53, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Hey TreyGeek, you seem to be the one that keeps me in check the best. Would you review my recent "history" addition to see that it is worded ok, and not copyrighted? ( I didnt copy and paste, I know that)

Thanks --Trainerboblol (talk) 19:02, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tyron Woodley

I was wondering if you could read over my edits to the page Tyron Woodley. My grammar and spelling need work so if you could fix whatever needs fixed that would amazing. Thanks a lot man. 24.107.210.161 (talk) 00:31, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My recommendations are:
  • Why is this fighter notable? He's had four fights, only one on the main part of the card. IMO, this causes the article to be deletable. See this discussion at the MMA WikiProject regarding fighter notability.
  • Never refer to a person by their first name. Either use both first and last name or just their last name. (In the Bio section he is often referred to as just Tyron.)
  • Sources, you cite only two sources. You need to cite as many of your facts as possible. (Who says he has a 6 fight deal with Strikeforce? Where's the proof of his childhood issues? etc.)
That's what I see at first glance. --TreyGeek (talk) 02:12, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My Warning

What are you talking about? Doing that just sounds stupid and lame. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shlarble (talkcontribs) 01:16, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's what happened as well. I'll make sure to log off in the future. If it happens again, wait a while after it happens and just tell me what happened. I don't want to come back to find out my account has been banned.Shlarble (talk) 02:37, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

stop editing the txst page. Txst is NOT a flagship university. Also, it does not have to be explicitly explained what acronyms the schools does not go by. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.111.128.169 (talk) 03:09, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Texas State University-San Marcos is the flagship school of the Texas State University System. Providing a source statement that Texas State explicitly discourages the use of the acronym "TSU" is not inappropriate. Judging by how long that information has remained in the article it seems many people agree with those edits. If you have concerns, it would be best addressed on the article's talk page. --TreyGeek (talk) 03:54, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dude, go to tsus.edu and show me where it says TxSt is the flagship. IT DOESN'T. BECAUSE TXST IS NOT.

And just because something has been there for a long time, that mean's it become "ok" to have there? Is that really how Wikipedia works? Shouldn't be. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.111.128.169 (talk) 18:09, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If something stays in an article for a long time, it is assumed to be accurate until a verifiable source refutes the information or a valid argument is presented and people agree with that.
As for Texas State being the flagship... in the infobox, the mention that it is the flagship school cites a reference[1]. That reference states that Texas State University-San Marcos is the "system's flagship" of the Texas State University System. I did not add that reference to the article, someone else did. Until a third-party, verifiable source is found to prove otherwise, it should stay.
Again, you concerns regarding this matter are best served on the article's talk page so that all who are potentially interested can offer their feedback. --TreyGeek (talk) 18:33, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Treygeek, there is currently a debate occurring on the Texas State discussion page regarding this very topic. Would you care to weigh in as you have been one of the keep figures in the growth of the Texas State article? Thanks. TxStateFAN (talk) 23:15, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wes Shivers

Would you put the Wes Shivers article I created up for deletion? Justastud15 (talk) 02:47, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is currently up for deletion via WP:PROD. We will have to wait for an admin to deal with that. Might I suggest in the future, you create articles on truly notable fighters, and not everyone who is on The Ultimate Fighter. --TreyGeek (talk) 02:50, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Usually, the fighters get chances in the UFC so I make the articles now but this season doesn't look to have the same fate. Justastud15 (talk) 15:29, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Keep in mind that articles should be created for fighters who are notable now. It should never be based upon future notability. It causes more work as you see. --TreyGeek (talk) 00:03, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Advice + Suggestions via Wikipedia community

I do take both advice and suggestions of the wikipeida community, however major edits, are never on a articles talk page. mcjakeqcool Mcjakeqcool (talk) 14:54, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Minor edits

If you're judgement is correct, then edits of talk pages come under the category of edits that is other truly minor edits as it is not formatting nor correction of spelling. mcjakeqcool Mcjakeqcool (talk) 10:00, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am not a threat to wikipedia

I would like to state that I am not a threat to wikipeida, and also I do not intend to damage or vandalize wikipeida in any-way, shape or form. However in defence of my recent edits, wikipeida talk pages to not have guidelines only wikipeida articles. I fail to make a statement in occurrence to marking talk page edits as minor. mcjakeqcool Mcjakeqcool (talk) 15:52, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Amir

I was answering the guys question? That is what Amir walked in to. Should I have posted it on his user page ? TIA (pinchet (talk) 02:15, 29 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]

You posted a link to YouTube of a Vanessa Mae Destiny music video. I fail to see how that addresses the thread or how to improve the Amir Sadollah article. --TreyGeek (talk) 02:18, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Look at what the guy asked above is all I'm saying. Should I have responded with something like that on his user page? (pinchet (talk) 02:21, 29 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]
Ok, I see what you are referring to now. I forgot the thread on his fight record had an extra question in it. As it is, posting raw YouTube URLs is not the best practice, particularly without some kind of explanation. It would probably have been better to simply say, "Amir's entrance music was xxx." --TreyGeek (talk) 02:29, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Future matches in record history

Sherdog reported the match as "signed and delivered," I think that should merit adding to the table. Jackson beet (talk) 03:10, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That doesn't guarantee the match will happen. There could be any number of reasons the match will be canceled including the day of the event. Phillipe Nover has shown that things can change at the last minute. --TreyGeek (talk) 03:20, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Q

How do you warn an IP?

I see where a IP should have been flagged with a {{subst:uw-advert1}} but how or do I place it? he/she/it posted the same add on 4 pages. I have them reverted but still. . . . David.snipes (talk) 14:14, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

IP users have talk pages just like registered users. For example, for the IP you were reverting earlier, the talk page is User talk:85.179.140.90. You then place the warning template on their talk page just as any other talk page. If you have WP:Twinkle installed, it will help you with placing warnings on pages after reverts. --TreyGeek (talk) 23:37, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Photo problem?

What is wrong with the photo that I just added? Justastud15 (talk) 02:36, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Responded on user's talk page. --TreyGeek (talk) 02:40, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I got it from his facebook. I'm confused here though, does a photo that is on a social networking site that the person took themselves have a copyright problem? I thought it would only be a problem if it was a photo that was from a photoshoot, something from like a website like UFC.com or if a professional photographer took it. I guess you learn something new everyday. Justastud15 (talk) 03:07, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
