Divine Child High School Band Program is one of the many programs at Divine Child High School in Dearborn, Michigan. The bands that make up the program are the marching band, pep band, symphonic band, and jazz band. Each band plays music that suits their genre and plays their music at different events throughout the school year.

Marching Band and Pep Band

The Marching and Pep Bands are the bands which support the school’s sports teams or attend other events. The marching band performs at all home football games, the school homecoming parade, the Dearborn Memorial day parade, the M.S.B.O.A. marching band festival [1], and in 2008 the marching band was invited to perform at Mitt Romney’s candidacy for the presidential race. The Pep band performs at all away football games, hockey games, pep rallies for the school, and, like the marching band, they also perform at other school sponsored events.

Symphonic Band

The symphonic band is the more formal band in the program because of the music that they play. This band plays more classical types of music such as works from Sousa, King, and Bach, and Tichelli [2] and perform several times a year. These performances include a Halloween Concert, Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, competitions between other bands or orchestras, and music clinics.

Jazz Band

The other formal band is the jazz band. The jazz band provides the opportunity for students to learn, study, and perform from the jazz idiom [3] These musicians perform with the symphonic band during the Christmas and Spring concerts as well as performing for other causes such as nursing homes and for the current Michigan governor, Jennifer Granholm. They also have gone to many competitions like the symphonic band and have gotten very good scores. In spring of 06, the band won Best Jazz Ensemble at the Music In The Parks.
