Steven "Shaw" Hauschka (born June 29, 1985 in Needham, Massachusetts) is an American football placekicker for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League. He was signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He played college football at Middlebury College and at North Carolina State.

College career

Middlebury College

Hauschka enrolled at Middlebury College, a prestigious liberal-arts college in Vermont, expecting to play soccer and lacrosse. He tried-out as a kicker in his sophomore year, earning the spot, and competed for three years. Middlebury won the NESCAC championship in 2007. Hauschka graduated with an A.B. in Neuroscience in 2007.

NC State

After graduating with honors from Middlebury College, Hauschka enrolled as a graduate student at North Carolina State. With one year of eligibility, he won the kicking job for the Wolfpack. Hauschka was signed by the Minnesota Vikings the following year.

Professional career

Minnesota Vikings

Hauschka was signed by the Minnesota Vikings in 2008 to share kicking duties with Ryan Longwell in the preseason. He was later picked up on waivers by the Baltimore Ravens.

Baltimore Ravens

Hauschka signed with Baltimore's practice squad on September 15, 2008. He was activated on October 30 to handle the long range field goals and kickoffs. His first professional field goal attempt came on November 9, 2008, against the Houston Texans, where he successfully hit a 54-yard field goal. He later missed a 52-yard attempt.

An exclusive-rights free agent in the 2009 offseason, Hauschka was re-signed on March 17. On November 17, 2009, Hauschka was released by the Baltimore Ravens [1] after he continued his season-long struggles.
