Brandon Paul League (born March 16, 1983 in Sacramento, California) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays. He is married with two children. He resides in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is hapa Yonsei. His maternal great-grandparents were born and raised in Fukuoka prefecture on Kyushu Island in Japan.[1]

League is known for his strong arm, and a sinker that reaches 100 mph—usually topping out at 98 mph. League also throws a slider and a changeup. In his first four seasons, he has been used as a relief pitcher, often as a setup man.

In the offseason following League's breakout 2006, he engaged in strength conditioning, while, at the behest of the Blue Jays, did not pitch until spring training. As a result, he overdeveloped some shoulder muscles, resulting in a significant drop in the velocity of his sinker.[2] This led to being placed on the 60-day disabled list, and League was largely ineffective for the 2007 season. However, the advent of the 2008 season saw League's velocity recovered, and with it his effectiveness.

He has had high potential throughout his career but has never lived up to expectation. Recently, he has developed a splitter that he now uses as a strikeout pitch. However, struggles with command have landed him with a higher than normal ERA.
