Zhoushan Trans-oceanic Bridges (Chinese: 舟山跨海大桥; pinyin: Zhōushān kuàhǎi dàqiáo), also called Zhoushan-Mainland Project, are part of the Ningbo-Zhoushan State Expressway (G9211) in China and the biggest construction project in the history of Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, China. Built on the East China Sea, they go across one of the busiest harbor areas in the world. The first part of the project consists of three trans-oceanic bridges, name as Cengang Beidge, Xiangjiaomen Bridge and Taoyaomen Bridge. The second part of the project consists of two trans-oceanic bridges, name as Xihoumen Bridge and Jintang Bridge, and a viaduct road connecting the bridges to Ningbo. The bridges were open to traffic on December 25th, 2009. [1]

Project

The project consists of five bridges: Cengang Beidge, Xiangjiaomen Bridge, Taoyaomen Bridge, Xihoumen Bridge and Jintang Bridge. It connects Zhoushan Island to Ningbo on the western side of Zhenhai and is constructed as a highway connecting Lidiao Island, Fuchi Island, Cezi Island and Jintang Island on its routine. The bridges are 25 kilometers long in sum and take about 10.7 billion CNY to build.

  • Yacen Road is the viaduct road connecting Cengang Bridge and Shuangqiao toll gate.
  • Cengang Bridge is the first bridge in the project. Acrossing Cengang Aqueduct, the bridge connects Zhoushan Island with Lidiao Island. The length of the bridge is 793 meters and the bridge have 4 lanes of expressway.
  • Xiangjiaomen Bridge is the second bridge in the project. Acrossing Xiangjiaomen Aqueduct, the bridge connects Lidiao Island with Fuchi Island. With a length of 951 meters and four lanes of expressway, the bridge have a span of 150 meters. Ships of up to 500 tons of displacement can go across the bridge safely.
  • Taoyaomen Bridge is the third bridge in the project. Ships of up to 2000 tons of displacement can go across the bridge safely.
  • Xihoumen Bridge is the fourth bridge in the project. The construction work began on May, 2004. The bridge is designed as a suspension bridge and it have the second longest span in the world. Ships of up to 30000 tons of displacement can go across the bridge safely.
  • Jintang Bridge is the fifth in order and also the longest in length of all the bridges in the project. The length of the bridge is 18.5 kilometers. It is the third longest trans-oceanic bridge built in China. The major ship passage was held by two bridge towers with 620 meters' height and ships of up to 50000 tons of displacement can go across the bridge safely.
