Cân i Gymru (English: A Song for Wales) is a Welsh television show broadcast on S4C annually. It was first introduced 40 years ago when BBC Cymru wanted to enter the Eurovision Song Contest. It usually takes place at Afan Lido in Port Talbot. It has taken place every year except 1973. It is proposed that if Wales were to enter the Eurovision Song Contest, Cân i Gymru would be the preselection show. Cân i Gymru is different to most talent shows, the majority invite the public to participate, whilst Cân i Gymru welcomes only professional artists.
