Lovechild

Lovechild are a rock / indie band from Belfast, Northern Ireland. They first rose to prominance in 2003 with frequent play of their first two singles "Hope You Have a Lovely Day", and "The Siren" on most Irish radio stations, such as N.Ireland's largest commercial station Cool FM, aswell as Belfast Citybeat, Downtown, RTE, BBC Across The Line, and stations further afield such as Pu1se, Phantom, KissFM (Canada), and Radio 1. Regular gigs at top Belfast venues such as The Empire, Mandela Hall, The Rosetta aswell as festivals like Glasgowbury, with other notable Irish bands such as The Answer (band) saw them build up a strong following.

Early exposure

The band gained further notoriety when "Hope You Have A Lovely Day" was chosen as part of a North American ad campaign by VisitBritain.ca in order to increase tourism to the United Kingdom.[1] The song was featured on the accompanying album "Visit Britain Rocks", released on EMI. Following this, their songs found their way onto many soundtracks including for the adventure documentary series "This Is The Sea" by filmmaker Justine Curgenven, which played on National Geographic Channel, Sky, and BBC television. Volume One featured "Hope You Have A Lovely Day" and "The Siren" [2], while Volume Two featured "Killin' Me". [3] Both received DVD release. GMTV presenter Ben Shephard is said to be a fan of the band, after plugging their debut EP. The band continued to enjoy commerical radio play, and in August 2004 were performed "The Siren" on Kelly (TV show), on UTV. They followed this up by winning the Belfast Empire heat of GBOB in winter 2004, and touring continuously over the following months. The Friendly Fire EP gained favourable press reviews in publications such as Logo Magazine, Juxta Fanzine, Big List and The Fly UK Gig Guide.
