2010 G-20 Summits
In 2010 the Group of Twenty Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (known as the G-20 and also the G20 or Group of Twenty) Summit will be co-hosted by the Republic of Korea and Canada. This decision was unanimously reached at the third G-20 meeting held in Pittsburgh on September, 25th. The summit will attract about 35 heads of state, government or international organizations, as well as more than 10,000 other participants. [1]
The fourth G-20 meeting (along with a G-8 summit dedicated to open markets, climate change, democracy, human rights and rule of law) will be held in Canada in June, 2010. [2] The fifth G-20 meeting will be chaired by the Republic of Korea in November, 2010. Several South Korean cities, such as Seoul, Busan, Incheon and Jeju City, have competed as candidate cities to host the summit, but after taking transportation and accommodation into account, Seoul was finally selected as the host city.[3]
By hosting the meeting of the world’s most powerful economies, Korea will start playing a crucial role in the international economic spheres. Building on past achievements and close cooperation among members, the G-20 will double its efforts in 2010 to help the world make a successful transition from global recovery to stronger, more sustainable and balanced growth. [4]
The previous three rounds were held in Washington, DC (November, 2008), London (April, 2009), and Pittsburgh (September, 2009), in that order.
