KSIQ (96.1 FM, "Q96") was a commercial Class B radio station located in Brawley, California, that broadcasted to the Imperial Valley, California, area at 50,000 Watts. KSIQ was a Top 40 music format programed by operations manager/program director Toby Salgado and branded as "The Valley's Q96"
First called 'SI-96' in the early 1980s (pronounced: SEE-96) which used the middle letters of its call name KSIQ. 'SI' stood for the Spanish word 'YES' as in 'YES-96', due to the huge population of Hispanics being located close to the US-Mexico border. In 1983, this changed to the simpler 'Q-96', which used the last letter of its call letters KSIQ. KSIQ is a popular FM station in Mexicali, Baja California, in Mexico.
KSIQ is off the air and is completing a move to Campo, California. The station is a move-in to the San Diego radio market.
The station is expected to be on air in February. The main transmitter is built and a booster station, located on Mount Miguel, will be built. Mount Miguel is where KPBS-FM and KNSD-TV broadcast from.
The station will have 25,000 watts of power, and the booster is projected to have 800 watts. The station will primarily serve the market south of the I-8 and Northern Baja California.
