A New Brain is an Off-Broadway musical with music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Finn and James Lapine. It premiered on May 14, 1998 at the Mitzie E. Newhouse Theatre at Lincoln Center in New York City with a cast headed by Malcolm Gets that included Kristin Chenoweth, Chip Zien and Keith Byron Kirk. A New Brain was under the artistic direction of Andre Bishop, directed and choreographed by Graciela Daniele, sets by David Gallo, costumes by Toni-Leslie James, lighting by Peggy Eisenhauer, and with sound by Tony Meola. Michael Starobin was orchestrator, Ted Sperling was musical director, and vocal arrangements were done by Jason Robert Brown. A cast recording was made under an RCA Victor label. Though many of Finn's previous musicals were to some extent autobiographical, A New Brain dealt directly with his own harrowing personal experience with cancer of the brain. The show closed on August 23, 1998.
