About Carrollton

Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart was founded in 1961. It is housed in El Jardin, built in 1918. The history of the Society of the Sacred Heart dates back to the 1800s when the society was founded by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat in France. St. Philippine Duchesne, in 1818, became the first missionary of the Society of the Sacred Heart to come to North America. She founded the first American free school west of the Mississippi. She founded the first six Sacred Heart schools in the United States.
