Klaske Hiemstra

Klaske Hiemstra (Vledder, 24 February 1954) is a writer of books in the Frisian language.

As a child of Frisian parents she grew up in two languages. From the age of eight she published in Dutch on the child corner of the Frisian newspaper “Friese Koerier”. Her studies in Dutch language and literature she completed whit modern Frisian literature. Hiemstra started to write in the Frisian language in 1997, as she was asked to be a member of “it Skriuwersboun”, the Frisian bound of writers. Since the 31th of December she became a columnist at www.itnijs.nl, the news site of “the Ried fan de Fryske Beweging”, the Council of the Frisian Movement.

Novels

  • Retoer Skylge (2004), a autobiographic novel about the phenomenon of “images out of the unconsciousness”.
  • It rinnen fan Silke (2006), a novel about a girl who studies law in Groningen, and has to live with the fact her mother suffers on a fatal disease. She does all the possible to get rid of the feeling she herself loses control.

Fairy tales

  • De bok, it gouden aai en de sân ravens (1996) contains three stories of three different authors. Hiemstra won the third price with It lân fan altyd snein. Translated in Dutch, German and English.
  • Eilânreis (2007)is a fairytale of the quest to the mother of two little sisters. One of them is mentally handicapped. Great images.
