Alejandro Agag

Alejandro Agag Longo (born 18 September 1970) is a Spanish businessman and former politician.

Agag was born in Madrid, to an Algerian-Belgian banker father and a Spanish mother, and is graduated in Economics and Business Studies from the Colegio Universitario de Estudios Financieros (CUNEF) in Madrid. He is fluent in English, Italian, French, and Spanish, his mother tongue. While at university he was active in the New Generations of the People's Party, where he continued his political career. From 1996 he worked closely with the then Prime Minister of Spain, José María Aznar as one of his three designated aides. At just 28 years of age, he was elected as an MEP and moved to Brussels where he was nominated Secretary General of the European People's Party. In the European Parliament he entered the Economic and Monetary affairs committee, focusing in antitrust policy. During his mandate as Secretary General of the EPP the organization expanded to the east of Europe, accepting in that period more than 20 new political parties. In the elections in 1999 the EPP became for the first time the largest group in the European Parliament.

In 2001, Agag announced his decision to leave politics and dedicate himself instead to business activities. Since then he has occupied positions in organizations such as the Portuguese Sociedad Luse de Negocios. He has also been involved with Formula One, playing a key role in its huge expansion in Spain, where TV audiences have multiplied in the last years, and has formed friendships with Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone and Lacksmi Mittal. Together, they bought the English football club Queens Park Rangers in 2007.

He is currently Chairman of Addax Capital LLP, an FSA regulated investment manager based in London. Addax specialises in fund management, FOREX trading and advisory to sovereign wealth funds. In 2007 Financial Times selected him as one of the 10 top "shakers and movers" of the Spanish economy.

On 5 September 2002, Agag married Ana Aznar Botella, the daughter of José María Aznar. The wedding, which took place at El Escorial in Madrid was a popular social event, attended by more than a thousand guests, among them the King and Queen of Spain, the prime ministers of Italy and the United Kingdom, and numerous other prominent politicians and celebrities.

Agag also owns the Barwa Addax GP2 Series team, which won the title in 2008. He took over the team from former F1 driver Adrián Campos in mid 2007.
