Robert Kovacik

Robert Kovacik is an American television journalist based out of Los Angeles, California. He is currently the Lead Morning Reporter for NBC Los Angeles, appearing every weekday morning on "Today in L.A." and frequently on NBC affiliates throughout the country and MSNBC.

Robert Kovacik's career had an unusual beginning--becoming the youngest anchor in New York City, the nation's largest television market. At the age of 23, Kovacik was tapped to anchor "Nightworld" for PBS flagship station, KCET-TV. Later relocating to Los Angeles in 1994, Robert Kovacik became an anchor and reporter for KCOP-TV. In 2001, he was named the West Coast correspondent, anchor and bureau chief for the newly formed National Geographic Channel and it's nightly news show, "National Geographic Today." Arriving at KNBC-TV in 2004, Kovacik made world headlines two years later when a murder suspect chose to surrender to him live on-air. Two years after that, in 2008, again international headlines after an angry confrontation between then LAPD Police Chief William Bratton and LA City Councilman Dennis Zine while Kovacik was reporting for "Today in LA."

Robert Kovacik holds an honors undergraduate BA degree from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Kovacik also has an honors graduate MS degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
