James Raymond[1] "Jimmi" Simpson (born November 21, 1975) is an American actor. He has had recurring roles on 24, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, My Name Is Earl and The Late Show with David Letterman, where he appears regularly as "Lyle the Intern". His film credits include Loser, Stay Alive, Seraphim Falls and Zodiac.
Personal life
Simpson was born in New Jersey. A graduate of Bloomsburg University, Simpson then spent 4 seasons at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Simpson has two older brothers. He is married and lives in Los Angeles with his wife, the actress Melanie Lynskey.
Career
Simpson made his film debut in 2000 as Noah in Amy Heckerling's Loser and continued with further theatre, television and film work. In 2008, Simpson starred on Broadway in the play The Farnsworth Invention as Philo T. Farnsworth, the inventor of television, winning a Theatre World Award for his performance. Other theatre credits include: Tartuffe, The Rainmaker (Broadway), Camino Real, The Winter's Tale and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
More recently, Simpson has guest starred in episodes of CSI, House and Psych, and has a recurring role on The Late Show with David Letterman as "Lyle the Intern". He next appeared in The Invention of Lying, directed by Ricky Gervais[2] and the upcoming Date Night alongside Steve Carrell and Tina Fey.[3]
