infectious?

I came here from the article Hekla where the term is used in relation to poisonous volcanic ash. the article here explains that in medieval times the meaning was generic - "so they simply put all illnesses under one heading". how can a generic title be "highly infectious"? --192.28.65.210 (talk) 22:44, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
