From 2005-2006 Shaker High School was ranked as the best high school in the Capital Region.

It is part of the North Colonie Central Schools school district, and is fed in part by Shaker Junior High School.

Sports

Shaker's "Blue Bison" sports teams include boys' soccer, track, golf, ice hockey, wrestling; girls' field hockey, lacrosse; boys' and girls' swimming, diving, tennis, softball, and football. Both boys' and girls' crew (rowing) is offered as a club sport.

Science Research

Shaker High School has started a "University" in the High School Science Research program. In this program, students are afforded the opportunity to select a scientific topic and perform original research. In this three-year program, students first gather background information, find a mentor, perform their research, and reach a conclusion based on the results.

The program is run by Biology teacher Covert. A symposium is held in May each year, where Shaker students, teachers, mentors, and parents are welcome.

Courtyards

The school has upper and lower courtyards. The upper is the larger, and has gardens, benches, and picnic tables. Some students spend their lunch time and study hall here. The lower courtyard has four walkways connecting the buildings.
