Monsters, Inc. 2 is an upcoming 2012 computer-animated film by Pixar Animation Studios and the sequel to the 2001 film Monsters, Inc.. Monsters, Inc. 2 will be released in 2012 alongside Newt. 2012 will be the second year Pixar will release two films at once after 2011, in which Cars 2 and The Bear and the Bow will be released. Monsters, Inc. 2 will be Pixar's fourth sequel film after Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3 and Cars 2.
Origins
Monsters, Inc. 2 was officially announced by director of the first film Pete Docter, in which James P. "Sulley" Sullivan and Mike Wazowski visit Boo in the human world again when she has grown into a teenager, which was going to be released on June 11 2011. However, fans objected to a sequel, saying that the closing scene of the first film where Mike has reconstructed Boo's shredded door and Sulley sees her again was so touching and heartfelt, the Monsters, Inc. franchise should be left at that. Monsters, Inc 2 was scrapped and replaced with Cars 2. However, Monsters, Inc. 2 has been revived and is slated for a 2012 release.
Plot
The plot of Monsters, Inc. 2 has not been announced yet, but the original plot, where Mike and Sulley revisit Boo when she has become a teenager, will presumably be featured.
Cast
John Goodman, Billy Crystal and Mary Gibbs have been confirmed and will be reprising their roles as Sulley, Mike and Boo. It is unknown if the characters Celia, Roz or Miss Flint will appear, or the main antagonist Randall Boggs and the secondary antagonist Henry J. Waternoose or even the CDA (Child Detection Agency).
Antagonist(s)
In the original film, Randall was kicked through one of the teleportation doors and ended up presumably in Louisiana/Everglades where he ends up in a trailer (the same trailer from A Bug's Life which has also spawned a future sequel) and is mistaken for an alligator and beaten with a shovel. It is unknown if he was actually killed in the beatings. Mr Waternoose was arrested by the CDA after accidentally broadcasting on the monitoring screens that he intends to go along with Randall's plot in kidnapping "a thousand children" from the human world to be used on the Scream Extractor. His fate remains unknown. James Coburn, who voiced Waternoose, died shortly after the film was released.
