Fuga Island is an island in the municipality of Aparri, Cagayan. It is located in the northernmost part of the Philippines as part of the Babuyan Archipelago. According to the latest census, it has a population of 1,786 people in 312 households. The island still retains a traditional culture. For example every year they build a small straw imitation of a boat and float it out to sea, a tradition started in 1656 when the island was almost invaded by British ships. Only the quick thinking defense by the natives kept the island from British colonization.
