Haris Vučkić (born August 21, 1992) is a Slovenian football forward or attacking midfielder of Bosnian descent[1] currently playing for Newcastle United in England.

Club career

Vučkić began his career at Slovenian side NK Domžale PrvaLiga debut on 24 May 2008 as a late substitute in a tie with NK Celje.[2] As he was too young according to Football Association of Slovenia rules, his club was fined.[3][4][5] In August 2008 he was promoted to first team, where he would go on to play 4 games.[6] On 16 January 2009, it was confirmed that Vučkić would sign for Premier league team Newcastle United for a substantial fee and signed a three and a half year deal at St. James' Park.[7][8] He is regarded as one of Europe's brightest talents and reports suggest he underwent a recent trial at AC Milan.

Vučkić made his first appearance for Newcastle's reserve team on 16/02/09 when he came off the bench to score the winning goal against Blackburn reserves, curling a left-footed shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards.[9] He scored his first goal for the U18 team in his league debut in a 4-2 away win at Derby.[10]

He has scored 3 goals altogether for the reserves, 2 league goals for the U18s and 5 more in 2009/10 pre-season friendlies. Vučkić made his Newcastle United debut on 26 August 2009 as a late substitute in a League Cup tie with Huddersfield Town, where he played on the left wing. 5 days later Vučkić came off the bench to replace striker Nile Ranger in a 1-0 victory over Leicester City. This was to be his first league appearance for the club.[11]

The Club confirmed on October 22 that Haris Vučkić could be sidelined for up to three months with knee and ankle injuries. He made his return in the reserves on April 20 where he scored 2 goals.[12]

International career

Vučkić has made 8 appearances for Slovenia at Under-17 level. He impressed in the 2009 U17 European championship qualifiers against Turkey, Russia and Malta, where he scored 3 goals in 3 games.[13] He also played for Slovenia U-14 and U-16 Selective teams. Despite only being 16 years old, Vučkić played for Slovenia during the finals of the U19 European Championships, held in the Ukraine in July 2009.

Personal life

He is the younger brother of Alen Vučkić, also a footballer at his former club NK Domžale. Vučkić was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
