Merrill F. West High School is a four-year, public high school, one of four in Tracy, California, a town of 80,300 residents.[1] Located on the northwest side of town, the school has a current enrollment of 3,166 students.[2] Its mascot is the Wolf Pack and its colors are blue and gold, both of which were chosen by the student body in 1993.[3] It is named for Merrill F. West, a Laurel, Iowa native who moved to Tracy in 1936 as a farmer and served on the Tracy Unified School District Board for 11 years, four of which he served as its president.[3]

Merrill F. West High School opened in 1993 to keep up with an influx of Bay Area commuters[4] with Cheryl Dominichelli as its first principal.[3] The school now has 129 full-time teachers and the current principal is Jeff Frase.

In 2003, West High School was eligible for the Governor’s Performance Award and the school was named as a California Distinguished School.[4][unreliable source?][5]
