VitaliV - is a British painter and sculptor who has developed a style based on the designs of computer microchips. Vitali was born in 1957, Odessa, Ukraine. In 1974 he was enlisted into the Odessa Nautical College. Following the college Vitali was deployed to different locations in the Russian Artic and Far Eastern regions for the next 6 years. During a stay in St. Petersburg in 1979 (at that time called Leningrad), Vitali had an experience that significantly influenced his life. Vitali started to frequent a popular cafe "Saigon" and became acquainted with a series of young artists, painters and sculptors and became fascinated observing them while they were manifesting their ideas through their art. During this time Vitali met with, amongst others, Solomon Rossin, Timur Novikov, Alexei Kostroma, Yuri Gourov and Sergei Aslanov. Vitali began working with some of the younger artists and sculpturers that he had by now become friends with, aiding them to prepare necessary devices for the creation of different sculptures and paintings, until finally, he learnt some techniques of his own and began to paint. To Vitali`s great surprise his first attempts received applaud from his friends and many others among the artists circles. Following these events, Vitali found a channel for expression and in 1986 made up his mind to join the sculpture department of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. In 1989, before completing his program in the art academy, Vitali came as an exchange student to Norwich University College of the Arts in England and following his studies he made his first visit to London, staying there for several months. Subsequently, a local newspaper printed “Vitali Vinogradov – new Russian revolution in London”. In 1991 Vitali moved to London permenantely, and in 1993 founded an art community, based in a former Barclays Bank building in the Hoxton area. Many artists came and went in the following years, working on and exhibiting various conceptual art, including large sculptures, video installations and other forms of art media. Since then until today, Vitali has enjoyed popularity and notability as he started to exhibit many of his works that a plemtitude of museums and private collectors have purchased. Throughout his life in England, he has initiated many business endeavours and ventures, the success of which allowed him to further support and continue his art.

The artist has produced still life paintings, abstracts and landscapes in addition to interpretations of iconic personalities as Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and many more. All portraits are laser-cut in relief and then painstakingly hand-painted, which can take months to complete. While abstracts and others printed on a fine film and constructed on a thin light-box which gives the illusion of additional dimension and high contrast.

Early Style

In 1989, as Vitali moved to England, his pieces took the side of numerous western and Russian private collections. "Vitali presents in his work a fragment of the world organized as the artistic set in each aspect of his compositions. Starting by the image itself in his work is fragmentary. The characters brought closer are existing to us. Although these characters are objects from real life, their most important features will appear while the rest would be outside the picture. The decision not to create the panorama in support of exaggeration gives a lot of place in the painting. In fact, the picture stretches out of the frame and reaches a monumental level, that's why the picture becomes itself monumental." Current Style - Via Art

Albeit his success, paintings and sculptures were insufficient for Vitali and he have extended his reach from Fine art and commenced producing various objects under the umbrella of Applied Art. He has produced jewellery which possessed an unusual ornament whose origins was inspired by electronic schemes. Via Art – From the day of the development of digital technologies, they have integrated and have affected all aspects of everyday life. Beyond affecting comfort, those technologies have presented various aesthetic experiences to different senses through a spectrum of mediums. Vitali has found the backbone of such mediums – the PCB, as fascinating as the end-products and sought to promote it as an aesthetic for its own right – “Aesthetic out of a function”. Such Aesthetic is a digitally illustrated style where the term Via implies both visual style and the method which the artist applies to create his works. Visually, the style promotes the functional Printed circuit board as an aesthetic by incorporating it with abstracts or appropriations of nature, or, different familiar styles. The method which the artist applies in his art works is first setting the PCB patterns, then, adding layer after layer of shape and color, Just like in the electronic Via which has vertical electrical connection between different layers of conductors. Since Vitali has established own unique style, first he produced objects of applied art as Jewellery, tableware and porcelain. Then he extended his collection and produced objects as Fashion clothes, accessories and furniture.

There are two main methods how the artist applies Via Art onto the objects. First manner is to print or engrave the PCB ornament as seen in the handles of the forks and spoons. The second manner is by completely changing the design as in the example of a teapot - The container itself remains functional and less mingled with, however, the handle follows the geometric rules of Via Art which is a straight line, a 45 degree curve and a little circle.

Fashion & accessories

Vitali has developed his interest in the technological dimension and has created a fantasy arising from the microchip, or simply from a digital model, to define his creative microcosm.

His work involves the special relationship that exists between art, architecture, landscape, human body, ontology, and Technology.

It is a combination of sculpture and design, using contemporary materials, in order to focus on the nature of the transition to digital technology, appropriating the world of nature with butterflies as decoration, digital, its activity can be described as re - encoding of natural codes.
