Involvement in the Libertarian Party and the Liberty Movement

Kathie first became involved in the Libertarian Party of Texas in 1978. With so many others, she worked to obtain the party’s ballot status by petitioning in the long, hot Texas summers.

Her hard work for the party paid off in more ways than one. In 1981, Kathie met Tom Glass at a state convention in Austin, Texas. They had their first date at the national convention in Denver.

Tom and Kathie served on the Texas LP state executive committee from 1982-84. In 1982, Kathie’s race for attorney general was well received by Libertarians and non-Libertarians alike. You can view her debate in that race in the [Video] section of this website.

Community and business activities

Kathie has practiced as a civil trial lawyer in Houston for 32 years. She has worked for large, medium, and small law firms, including her own firm in which she employed as many as 20 employees.

Texas gubernatorial election

Kathie Glass won the Libertarian Party of Texas nomination at its State Convention in Austin on June 12. Glass beat her opponent, 58-year-old businessman Jeff Daiell, also of Houston, with 73 percent of the vote. Five candidates had applied for the nomination; two of them withdrew and one failed to show at the convention.

Kathie's 5 Point Lone Star Plan for Texas

★TEXAS 9TH AND 10TH AMENDMENT SOVEREIGNTY: Use nullification and interposition to refuse enforcement by Texas of unconstitutional federal laws like EPA Cap & Trade and Obamacare, and United Nations power grabs like the Law of the Sea Treaty and the Small Arms Disarmament Treaty.

★LOWER TAXES: Eliminate school property tax. Eliminate franchise tax which acts as a personal income tax. No income tax! Reduce other property taxes and strengthen taxpayer protections such that no one loses their house due to unpaid property taxes.

★LOWER SPENDING: Reduce government education spending to the bare minimum required by our Texas Constitution. Eliminate state Medicaid expenditures.

★PROTECT OUR BORDER: Use our Texas State Guard. Limit all government spending on education and healthcare to citizens of Texas and the United States. Border enforcement will reduce demands on our education, health care, and criminal justice systems.

★SUPPORT PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS: Strengthen eminent domain protections. Oppose boondoggles like the Trans Texas Corridor and other destructive public/private projects.
