Scott Stapp

Scott Alan Stapp (born August 8, 1973) is an American singer, songwriter, rocker and co-founder of the band Creed.

Early life

Stapp was born on August 8, 1973, Orlando, FL

He attended Lee College in Cleveland, TN, Valencia Community College in Orlando, Florida, Tallahassee Community College, and finally Florida State University. Stapp earned an Associate in Arts Degree and was 12 hours from his BA degree when Creed was signed to a recording contract. .[1]

Music career

Creed (1995-2004, 2009-present)

After developing a friendship at Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, FL with guitarist Mark Tremonti, Stapp and Tremonti reunited while both attended Florida State University. It was there they decided to form a band. After recruiting Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips, Creed was formed in 1995. Durning the late 1990s and early 2000s, Creed sold three multi-platinum albums. In 2004, Creed officially announced its break-up and Stapp began working on his debut solo album, The Great Divide, which was released in 2005. During interviews before the reunion, Stapp did not discuss Creed, his relationships with the members of the band, or the meanings of his lyrics, preferring instead to let the lyrics speak for themselves. He has told the press that he is a Christian.

Stapp cites The Doors, particularly Jim Morrison, as one of his principal musical influences on Stapp's approach to lyric writing. Morrison was also a native Floridian and for a time attended Florida State University) and performed with the surviving members of the band for a televised concert in 1999, as well as the Stoned Immaculate: The Music of the Doors tribute album. On VH1's Behind the Music special on Creed, Ray Manzarek of The Doors said, "When you hear Scott Stapp singing, it's kind of shocking 'cause it sounds so much like Jim."

On April 27, 2009 Creed announced they would be releasing a new album. The band toured from August 6, 2009 to October 20, 2009, on a reunion tour, and released a new album, Full Circle, on October 27, 2009.

Solo career (2004-2008, 2009-present)

The Great Divide was released in the U.S. on November 22, 2005, peaking at #19 on Billboard's Top 200 chart and was certified platinum on December 14, 2005. The Great Divide has since reached 2x platinum. [2] His backing band for the record and live shows since has consisted of Aristides Rincon and John Curry on guitars, Mitch Burman on bass, and Mark Archer on drums. They are all members of the band Goneblind.

In April 2008, Stapp uploaded a cover of U2's "Running to Stand Still" on his MySpace page. On August 8, 2008, he posted an acoustic version of "Broken" which was on his previous record.

On August 10, 2008, Stapp's management announced a new solo project would be released in the second quarter of 2009 [3]; however, because of the Creed reunion, the album was put on indefinite hiatus.[4] In April 2010, Stapp released (free to fans via scottstapp.com) a new remix of "Broken," featuring rapper Mase, and 2 B-side tracks, "Somber" and "Criminal," from the upcoming solo album.

He will be appearing on Carlos Santana's upcoming solo album Guitar Heaven: Santana Performs the Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time, a cover album on which he sings on the cover of the Creedence Clearwater Revival song "Fortunate Son." The album also features appearances by the likes of Chris Daughtry of the band Daughtry, Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park and Dead By Sunrise.

Stapp announced on his myspace page that after Creed's 20-10 tour that he will be doing an solo acoustic tour he quotes “I'm stripping down all the Creed hits, as well as my solo material,in a manner that fans have never heard before but have long been screaming for” [5]. Creed's touring rhythm guitarist Eric Friedman will also be joining him on the acoustic tour [6] The tour begins on September 29,2010 through November 20,2010 [7] [8].
