Shane Dawson (born Shane Lee Yaw, July 19, 1988) is a YouTube comedian and actor. Dawson is known for making comedy videos featuring recurring characters, impersonations and spoofs of popular music videos. His YouTube channel is the third most subscribed channel of all time, with over 1.9 million subscribers. Dawson has since expanded his presence on YouTube by adding a second channel for vlogs and his series "Ask Shane" and a third channel using videos only taken from his iPhone.

Dawson's career began when he and several friends would turn in videos instead of homework in high school. Eventually, teachers would trade tapes with the students, and ask for personal copies of what was filmed. Dawson's first videos on Youtube were old assignments that he turned in during high school.

In November 2009, he was featured on Attack of the Show!. In 2010, Forbes magazine named him their 25th most famous web celebrity.

Recurring characters

Since there are multiple series of videos, some of this information may not be canon.

Shane: A character used to represent Shane Dawson as he really is. Unlike most of the characters in ShaneDawsonTV, Shane is a very quiet and well behaved kid. He doesn't drink, take drugs, and alludes that he is a virgin. He has only dated Shananay in the episodes, though he did date one Black girl in a flashback about what turns him off (Not because she's black, but cause she has bitch friends). He went to jail once when Shananay framed him for the 7/11 robbery. He is also frequently assumed to be gay because of his hairstyle. His main friends consist of Shananay, S-Deezy, Ned the Nerd, Gay Marco(Degrassi spoof), and Amy(SD High episodes). He has also hired Shananay to kill people, once with Fred, and another time when JonasFan69 left a hate comment on his page. He is also very shy, and grew up without his dad. His mom acted as a dad in his stead.

Shane's mom: Never officially named in show, she is a weird woman with red hair and loves sex. She raised Shane and his brother alone, and says that if Shane hadn't been born, she would be a rich porn star. In "sesame street on crack!" she reveals that she "Is single, and ready to Mingle" Using Shane's vlog as a way to broadcast this message. She refers to shane as a faggot (Calling him and gay marco faggots as she drove away from Degrassi, and calling him her "my Gay Faggoty boy" in the school president election), and constantly calls him gay. Despite her constant pestering, it is shown in "Fatherless day" that she does love shane as any mother would. Though it is never officially been confirmed, Aunt Hilda seems to be her sister. This is reinforced by the fact that Hilda was present when shane introduced Shananay to his immediate family, and that Shane and his mom seem to live in Hilda's house. Shane Dawson says that Shane's mom's voice is his best Cher impression.

Shananay: A stereotypical ghetto girl who loves sex, drugs, and cannot hold onto a job. Played by Shane Dawson himself, Shananay is easily one of the most popular characters on ShaneDawsonTV. Shananay's jobs include but are not limited to: Drive Thru operater, waitress in a chinese resteraunt, a present wrapper at a mall, ride operater at Disney Land,a driver's instructor at the DMV, a collector at a sperm bank, and a 911 operater. She has dated Shane, S.Deezy, an unnamed boyfriend whom she said shot at her, and most likely more people that have not been mentioned. It is revealed in CHristmas wrapper that she took the job merely because she wanted to buy a Wiifit. She has alludes that she has also been convicted of various crimes, though this is only seen in DMV when she robs a 7/11. She also has a drinking problem, and is an ex-drug addict. She is currently addicted to Heroin. She is HIV positive, and has a few other STDs. She says that she is 75% clean and that she would like to keep it that way. She also has a rash on her Vagina (Or as she referred to it, her "Secret Garden") that she believes is never going away. She has also said that her hair is not real, and that the hair that is looks like her "Secret Garden". Shananay has appeared in many episodes of Shane Dawson, as well as Shananay exclusive videos she ccalls "Wednesday Bullshit". In these videos she teaches the audience how to put their makeup on like her, parodies the Youtube videos based on Carl's Jr., and watches a video featuring Joe Jonas dancing to single ladies. In one particular Shane Dawson episode; Harry Potter deleted scene, SHananay is placed in many movies including Transformers, Harry Potter, Where the Wild things are, and Kill Bill. She fails in these roles in different ways, such as assuming that the wild things are big clumps of pubic hair that want to rape her, and then shooting them. She has also resorted to Online Dating under the profile Shana, which is named so because her nails are not good at typing on a keyboard. She has mentioned a friend named Rhonda, who she does drugs with who is never officially seen in the show (Though Rhonda may be who Shananay was talking to in "Does size matter?"). It is revealed that she has had sex with a woman in Jail once. She hates Twilight because she cannot read all the "Big-ass" words in it. Her Third eyebrow is actually mascara she draws on her forehead. In the interactive torture game, she is revealed to have been the Youtube Killer. In the Death game, Shananay is killed when she meets Samara from the Ring. Before death, she gives Samara a Ghetto makeover.

Aunt Hilda: Shane's homophobic aunt. She is 50 years old (As revealed in "Ke$ha Blah Blah Blah spoof")She often bugs Shane about being gay, similar to Shane's mom. Her last name is Goldstein, as revealed in "School dance disaster". She has a husband named Bob Goldstein, who was "killed in a machete fight outside of a 7/11 by three angry mohicans". Hilda then ha bob stuffed so that she could treasure him after death. She has created a cooking show in which her and Bob create "Their favorite meals". She has referred to Shananay as Boquiqui. She has had several jobs, including being a suicide hotline operater, working at a pizza shack to vacation from Shane, and is a teacher at SD high. Shane and his mom live in Aunt Hilda's house. She seems to love cooking, but so far has only made "Weed(Marjuana) Brownies". She is very strict with Shane, as she refuses to allow him out of the house when he claims to have recovered from sickness. She reveals in "School Dance disaster" that she grew up without a dad. She also hates Bisexuals, saying that "This isn't the home town Buffet, you can't have a taco and a hot dog, jus pick one. I prefer hot dogs. I like the way they slide down my throat.".Aunt Hilda is the second most popular character, second only to Shananay.

S-Deezy: A rapper with a passion with violence, sex, drugs, and drinking. He was once in the recording studio with Lady Gaga where he called her music a shit cake and exclaimed: Nobody wants to eat Shit!". In the Death Game, he is killed when he is rapping to music, and it is turned up too loud and kills him. He has had sex with a man, but only because he was heavily intoxicated and the man was a transvestite. He has dated Shananay, and seems to have a somewhat friendly relationship with Ned the Nerd. He has a dog named Miley (Same name as Shane Dawson's real dog). He also raps in the episode "Ke$ha Blah Blah Blah spoof". He has posed for nude photos in "Sexy truth or dare". He has a gold tooth and sometimes wears jewelry.

Ned the Nerd: A sex hungry nerd who is addicted to porn. He and Shane seem to be friends of sorts. Ned can't understand many of Shananay and S-deezy's sexual innuendos, and is the most unpopular member of Shane's friends. He has an asian girlfriend who he believes to look like Megan Fox. He has eaten a piece of Shane's poop, which Shane disguised as chocolate. He is killed in the Death game in a car crash. He refers to his penis as his "Pony-Baloney", and is believed to have invented Oral Sex (Not historically accurate).

YouTube channels

PrinceMeta (See youtube page) posts new videos on his main channel, ShaneDawsonTV every Saturday and vlogs on his second channel, ShaneDawsonTV2, throughout the week. Every Monday he also has an "Ask Shane" video which he answers questions from his viewers, which is put on his second channel. He has another YouTube channel, Shane, where he posts unedited videos directly from his iPhone. Recently he announced that he was going to write a TV pilot that will feature characters from his previous videos about a high school. It will be about Shane in a high school setting and the funding will come from the YouTube channel Take180 with who he has made videos with before. Shane Dawson is currently the third most subscribed person on YouTube (with his main channel, ShaneDawsonTV) behind nigahiga and Fred.

SD High

On August 11, 2010, Dawson announced that he was making a 30 minute pilot episode which is to be called "SD High". It is to be based on 2 videos uploaded to his main channel "ShaneDawsonTV", in the videos Dawson is in school and plays all of the characters in costumes. The pilot is to be released towards the end of September and will premiere on YouTube.

Awards and nominations

Shane Dawson has been nominated for various awards. On August 9, 2010, Dawson won the award for Choice Web Star at the 2010 Teen Choice Awards. Although the category was not featured at the awards show, Dawson stated in a video that he posted to YouTube the next day that "It was just great to be nominated and at the show itself". The nominees for that category included fellow YouTubers iJustine, Charles Trippy, Lucas Cruikshank, best known for his Fred character, and singer Greyson Chance.
