Femke Wolting (born November 6, 1970, in Ouder-Amstel, The Netherlands)[1] is one of Holland's leading independent new media producers.

Background

From 1995-2000, Femke worked at the Dutch national public broadcasting network, VPRO[2]. She has produced and directed many TV and cross-media programs. She is the initiator of Exploding Cinema, International Rotterdam Film Festival's annual look at the future of media, organizing exhibitions, conferences and master classes for media makers.[3]

In 2000 she co founded Submarine, an independent production company for documentaries, games and animation with Bruno Felix.[4] Together in 2001, they also created SubmarineChannel, a distribution and a production platform for filmmakers and interactive artists.[5]

Besides managing Submarine and SubmarineChannel, she just finished co-directing documentary with Jorien van Nes about virtual worlds, ‘Another Perfect World’.[6]. She is known as a documentary filmmaker, producer and innovator of interactive media.

Rembrandt’s J’accuse: A masterpiece in essay form documentary, which has the illustrious director making the case for conspiracy and murder by closely examining Rembrandt’s great “Night Watch” painting.[7]

My Second Life: In January 2007, a man named Molotov Alva, disappeared from his Californian home. Shortly after, a series of video dispatches by a traveler of the same name appeared within a popular online world called Second Life. Filmmaker Douglas Gayeton came across these video dispatches and put them together into a documentary of ten episodes, shot entirely in Second Life.[8]

Kika & Bob: Kika and Bob is a animation series suitable for children of all ages. A not too clever firefighter called Bob and a bright girl called Kika are blown to the other side of the world by a typhoon. They have to travel the world trying to get home and save Kika's kitten Tiger. In their adventures there are many obstacles to overcome, territories to be crossed and people and animals to be met.

Although the series will mainly be produced in 2D animation, certain elements and or scenes will be highlighted through the use of 3D techniques. The linear animation will feature semi-scientific animations and photo-realistic illustrated interludes. Kika & Bob is produced as a linear television-series combined with a website as well as a series made for an interactive television set top box.[9]

Viktor & Rolf: because we’re worth it: The film Viktor & Rolf: 'because we’re worth it!' portrays Dutch fashion designers Viktor & Rolf at a turning point in their career. The documentary shows the transition that the duo underwent from being conceptual artists-cum-fashion designers to being part of the commercial fashion-establishment.[11]

Sneakers: Sneakers approaches the shoe as a cultural expression, an icon of modern times. Sneakers are much more then just shoes, the sneaker fits easily into the sports- as well as the fashion world, into pop music as well as highbrow art, on teen's and middle aged feet, in the U.S.A. as well as Tokyo. In all those different types of sport, atmospheres, experiences, generations and topographically determined places the sneaker takes on the meaning that the specific group that adopts it attributes to the shoe like a chameleon.[12]

Beyond MTV: A documentary for VPRO Television about the art of the music video. This program is to showcase the artistic vision of the music video director. What began two decades ago as little more than a marketing tool showing a band's stage act has become a director's medium of expression and experimentation. With amongst other's Spike Jonze, Mike Mills, Geoffrey de Crécy and H5.[13]

It's the end of TV as we know it: A two hour documentary and website for VPRO Television about the future of media. The program contains interviews with a crossection of the Internet and media industry in the United States, such as Jeff Bezos (CEO of Amazon.com), Bran Farren (creative director of Disney), Richard Gariott (Ultima Online), James Murdoch (vice president of Newscorp), Joe Krauss (CEO Excite@Home) and Jeremy Rifkin (The Age of Access).[14]
