Mari people

Wrong acccents here. It may happen (and happens) to a person of any ethnicity. Leonid Markelov himself is Chuvash (as far as I heard), Chuvashs are another indigenous ethnicity. It's just a coincidance that Vladimir Kozlov is Mari. Russian-language opposition papers are being closed and ethnic Russian (by the way, most "Russians" in Mari El are métis) oppositioners are being exerted pressure as well. No, actually specifically Mari ethnicity is opressed in comparison to the Russian one. Not only political activists are threatened (and not only separaticls or leftists or anti-Government at all), but also the culture, religion (the only indigenous religion in Europe left!) and languages are being subdued.
Markelov is officially Russian ( http://www.chuvash.ru/node/101 ), he was born in Moscow in 1963 and came to Mari El only in 1986 after University to work as military prosecutor.
