Christian Gabriel Ledru Macari (born February 8, 1980) is a French music video director and producer from the French West Indies. Through his company, Tchimbé Raid Production, he has released since 2006 more than 5O video-clips of Hip Hop, RnB, Reggae-Dancehall and Zouk. He has been honoured in 2008 at The Olympia for his realisation: Le Combat Continue 3 by Kery James and he is considered since then as an icon of the French Hip Hop scene[1].

Biography

Even though he was born in the Val de Marne, Macari flew with his parents to where they originally come from: Martinique, only two weeks after his birth. He grew up on “The Island of Flowers”, first in Carbet then in Shcoelcher. He was educated in the capital city, Fort-de-France. He went to Ernest Renan secondary school and to the same former, Victor Schoelcher high school, of the pioneer of the Negritude: Aimé Césaire. After having passed his A-level in economics in 1998, he left for Paris to start some graphic art studies at the Grande Ecole of ESAG Penninghen.

After five years of dedication, he obtained his diploma with honours in 2003 and undertook a career in direction and production which has been leading him to work with artists such as Snoop Dogg, Bushido, Booba, Damani, Kery James, La Fouine, Mac Tyer, Mokobe, Soprano, Rim K, Sefyu, Rohff, Nessbeal, Casey, Despo, Soprano, 113, Princess Lover, Tina, Ali Angel and Tony Parker[2].

Style

Influenced during his youth by finest talents like Spike Lee, Hype Williams, Chris Robinson, Ridley Scott & Tony Scott, Martin Scorsese, John Singleton and actors such as Denzel Washington and Samuel L. Jackson, Macari has a unique[peacock prose] style, far away from the stereotypes of the most common Hip Hop music videos. Beyond his artistic universe he is described as being dark, this image-maker brings another dimension to his productions by creating a new aesthetic thanks to an original cinematographic touch[3].

Passions

Macari is passionate[citation needed] about graphic art, cinema, basketball, and Hip Hop but is above all a gifted[peacock prose] draughtsman. This drawing-virtuoso, created his first masterpieces[peacock prose] at the age of six and is still feeding his passion next to the video production.

Awards

Macari won the award of Best Hip Hop Video in 2008 at the Olympia for the 2nd sequel of "Les Trophées de l’Année du Hip Hop” for "Le Combat Continue 3" by Kery James[4].

He is also the winner of the RFO contest Best Short Movie Amateur” in 2003 for his movie TCHIMBE RAID. In this 4 minutes motion, he describes his nostalgic state of mind in regards to the distance from his roots and parents and the loneliness in front of the drepanocytosis.
