In 1977, Engel & Völkers was founded in Hamburg and is presently in 37 countries on 5 continents.^[9] Today around 3,640 people work under the umbrella of Engel & Völkers.
The company's headquarter is situated in Hamburg, regional headquarters are located in New York City and in Hong Kong. The company offers multiple services related to real estate transactions: consulting, leasing, sales and valuations for private and institutional clients. The company works with a franchise system, through which independent entrepreneurs can join and become a licence partner of Engel & Völkers. The trademark rights are given to (licence) partners in a stipulated area. The partners use the brand name of Engel & Völkers and its standardized services. In addition to the licensing partner system, they introduced the basic concept store as the business model of Engel & Völkers in the mid-nineties. The property shops are decorated in a uniform corporate design.
The network of Engel & Völkers now consists of more than 420+ residential property shops and 44 commercial offices.
